The staff are a big part of why I enjoy visiting Fitz Casino & Hotel. Everyone I’ve dealt with has been friendly, welcoming, and helpful, and the atmosphere feels more laid-back than at some bigger casinos. The casino floor was clean, easy to get around, and not too loud. There’s a good mix of older favorite slots and newer machines, and everything I played worked properly. The casino is showing its age in places and could use some updating, though. A few modern improvements would make a noticeable difference and help it live up to its potential. I’d still recommend Fitz to anyone in Tunica looking for a relaxed, friendly casino. And seriously, I’ve never lost there. I always leave with more money than I came in with!
The pool was the biggest letdown. The hot tub was cold, the “heated” pool was cold too, and they had the air conditioning running full blast inside in the middle of winter. We’d finally gotten a chance to use the pool because it had been closed the last several times we came, so I was really disappointed. This last visit was for our 29th anniversary, which made the whole stay feel even more disappointing. There’s potential here, and the buffet is good. The food is expensive, though Dominics has great food and service at a fair price. Their tequila sunset, made with grapefruit tequila, blackberry brandy, and pineapple juice, is awesome, and the catfish platter was the best I’d had in a long time. Most security staff are pleasant, and guest services are generally friendly. But there’s barely any bar service, and they’ve done away with the free soda fountain. There’s no coffee machine in the rooms either. After Dunkin’ Donuts closes at 9 p.m., there’s nowhere to get coffee until 7 a.m. We have to go to Gold Strike for its 24-hour coffee cafe or drive about 10 miles up the road to a gas station. Overall, it’s okay and could become one of the best around if they put in more effort.
There wasn’t any housekeeping during our stay unless you were checking out. A few room issues too: the TV remote didn’t work, the channel lineup card was wrong, and the deadbolt was faulty. The staff were professional, very nice, and helpful when we needed them.
I like the table games, food, and some of the slots at the fitz, and the food court stays open late. Even after 1 a.m. you can still get something for a late-night hunger, and they’re quicker with orders than nearby casinos. They do run out of items now and then, though they seem to be keeping the stock up better lately. My rating is mostly about the hotel. My husband and I stayed this past weekend, and the room wasn’t very clean. There were used washcloths on the bathroom sink, so I went to the front desk. They were nice about it and gave us clean towels. We’ve stayed a couple of other times, and the rooms have been about the same in terms of cleanliness. This time I also spotted a roach near the ceiling in the bathroom. Since it was checkout time, I told my husband the fitz would be a last resort, or we’d pay to stay somewhere else. We’ve been staying here because the rooms were complimentary, but from now on we’ll go elsewhere unless we can’t book anywhere else.
The bed and towels were clean, but the rest of the room was a mess. The surfaces hadn’t been wiped and had sticky rings on them, the floor had big sticky spots, and the toilet bowl had a ring. Two bedroom bulbs needed replacing. We stayed several days, and nobody offered us fresh towels, asked how things were going, or emptied the trash even once. The room was supposed to include a safe, but there wasn’t one, and having a safe matters to us when we travel. The hallway was very loud, with doors slamming and employees’ two-way radios squawking.
