Hilton Garden Inn Rochester/University & Medical Center

The one letdown was that the pool was a little dirty. The room was clean and the food was good, though, and everyone from the dining team to housekeeping and the front desk was friendly, helpful, and made me feel like a valued guest. The hotel is easy to get on and off the highway, with lots of food and drink places within walking distance. Whether you're here for the hospital or just need a Rochester hotel, I'd say this is 110% the place to stay. I've stayed in dozens and dozens of hotels, and this was probably my BEST experience ever. I'll certainly return if I need a night in Rochester.

Fruit flies in my room were disappointing, though the hotel itself is basic and was clean enough. The staff weren't the friendliest either. I stayed once for business and booked another trip, but when my plans changed and I gave a week's notice, they charged me for the full night. Their fine print says you need to give 21 days' notice to avoid a penalty. That's outrageous and unforgiving, especially since I hadn't even booked that far ahead. I travel for business every month and will never use a Hilton property again. Marriott and others let me change plans up to 24 hours before the stay without a penalty. Hilton is robbing people when it has more than enough to fund itself.

I liked being able to self-park, since a lot of hotels these days make you use valet. The room was nice and clean, the location was great, and there were plenty of places within walking distance. I'd definitely come back.

The staff were patient and understanding, and Ryan, the manager, was exceptionally friendly and helped sort out a billing issue, even though I admit I wasn't particularly cordial. The room was clean, the AC worked great, and the hospital was a five-minute walk away. I don't usually leave reviews, but their compassion helped me through a rough few days.
