Holiday Inn Express Rochester - University Area by IHG

The staff were super friendly when I arrived, and everything was neat and clean. I was in town for a doctor's appointment and travel a fair distance, so being close to the hospital and all my appointments was helpful. Google Maps made the drive easy to follow. I usually count on Holiday Inn Express for a comfortable night's rest, and the consistency is why I tried to stick with them while traveling around the US last summer. Sometimes they charge way too much, but this location was reasonably priced when I stayed. I'd recommend it for families too. Breakfast wasn't perfect, but it was a quick way to get going and feel energized.

The front desk woman was sweet and got us checked in quickly. Parking was decent, though the sidewalks could have been shoveled more because loading and unloading was tricky. It wasn't the worst, and breakfast was fine. The room was pretty gross, though. The shower leaked, the floors hadn't been vacuumed, and although the beds were made, they weren't fully clean. There were gross stains everywhere, and the heat/AC vents were filthy. The hallway and elevator were gross too. If they're that understaffed, the prices should come way down. I wouldn't expect a staff that short to be able to maintain the place.

The staff were very kind, but the hotel itself was run down, and we were disappointed after great stays at several other Holiday Inn Express hotels. Since we booked through a third party, we couldn't get a refund. There was trash and a piece of clothing under the bed that weren't ours, and our key cards deactivated several times during our two-night stay. I'm an amputee, so we had a handicap room. Anyone with disabilities considering this hotel should know that the shower slopes the wrong way and floods the whole bathroom instead of draining, creating a serious slipping hazard. The pool was outdated, smelled bad, and looked run down too. We didn't enjoy our stay and won't be back.

Amy at Holiday Inn was so kind and helpful. Our plans changed at the last minute, and she handled everything smoothly without adding stress. She even worked a double shift to support her team. Her dedication and positive attitude really stood out, and she's a big asset to the team. The hotel is clean, with great staff, a hot breakfast, and a small pool.
