Spark by Hilton Rochester South

The rate was reasonable for the area, and the staff let me have a late checkout without an extra charge, which I appreciated. I stayed one night in Rochester for appointments. The lobby was clean, parking was plentiful, and the area was quiet after a long day on the road. Getting checked in was frustrating. It took three tries to get into a room, and on the last attempt the front desk moved me to one closer to the elevator. I wasn’t happy with the location, but I’d been traveling all day, hadn’t eaten, and just wanted to settle in. The room looked clean, though the bathroom caulking was worn and needed repair. Breakfast was very basic, with cold cereal, bagels, and juice, so don’t expect anything fancy. I’d recommend this as an affordable place to rest, but I don’t see myself returning.

I booked on the hotel website and got a $60 Mayo Clinic discount for our two rooms at check-in. Amazing. We’ll definitely stay here again on our next annual Mayo visits, and I highly recommend it. The hotel is new and very clean, with modern, inviting rooms. There was a great selection at the complimentary breakfast, and the staff were friendly and accommodating.

The front desk was helpful, and the rest of the stay was solid. It’s a clean, reasonably priced hotel. I stayed for three days and would come back. Breakfast was very limited, the gym needed more equipment, and the bed was a bit stiff. The towels weren’t great either.

For the price, I really can’t complain, and the quality felt in line with what I expect from Hilton. I’d gladly stay here again on another trip to Rochester. I was traveling solo, and the room felt roomy enough for me, though a family of four might find it a little small. I was pleasantly surprised by the competitive rate and wanted to try the Spark brand. Check-in was easy, and the gentleman working was very kind. The room had clean, modern decor, comfortable beds, a lovely TV, and shelves and a window seat I especially liked. The hotel is in south Rochester, with Target and other shopping nearby. I used the Mayo shuttle, which follows a fixed route connecting several hotels, and had no problems with it. Breakfast was good for a quick start: cereal and milk, juice, hard-boiled eggs, bagels, yogurt, oatmeal with toppings, muffins, and bananas. Some people may want more.
