I was there for a Mayo Clinic procedure at St. Mary’s Hospital. The staff were friendly, but housekeeping was loud and slammed doors, and the building felt old and run down, with paper-thin walls and floors. You can hear your neighbors snore. Floors were dirty throughout. The neighborhood felt sketchy, with a fleabag motel next door, despite being directly across from a Mayo hospital. There was no wheelchair available in the lobby, and the accessible parking spaces were too small for a pickup truck. The bathroom light was burned out. At 10 p.m., as we were getting ready for bed, they told us to leave the door open for light or change rooms. The hot tub was out of order, and it was the only amenity I could have used for my health condition.

The rooms are clean and comfortable, and the breakfast buffet was fresh and well stocked. I had to fast until after my tests one day, so the gentleman working the buffet gave me a bag to take some food along. The three people I spoke with at the front desk were all professional and friendly. Good job, SpringHill suites! We’ve stayed here several times because it was handy for my husband while I was in the hospital across the street. Downtown road construction makes getting to the building a little harder, though it’s manageable. You need to catch the shuttle in the parking lot. If you need a wheelchair, the front desk will let you take one out there, and they say you can leave it when you board the bus. They’ll come and get it.

The staff are cordial and the rooms are clean, but I won’t stay here again. The rooms are dated, smaller than most SpringHill Suites, and smell strongly of perfume, probably from heavily scented cleaners. Breakfast was disappointing too. At check-in I was told it starts at 6 a.m. every day and that the sign was outdated, but it didn’t begin until 6:30. They also don’t respond to messages in the BonVoy app.

The facilities aren’t the most modern or luxurious, but I needed an affordable, safe, comfortable place to sleep while being with family in the hospital, and this was a good fit. The location right across the street, with free onsite parking, was perfect for what I needed. I’d book here again, though I hope I won’t need to. Mark at the front desk, along with everyone I interacted with, was very helpful. Thank you for being flexible and understanding when my Mayo Clinic dates and times changed. The hot breakfast started early enough for me to get to the hospital on time. Thank you, Springhill Suites, Mayo Clinic, Rochester Minnesota. -Elizabeth Christensen Portland, OR

The breakfast attendant was very kind, and the location was good. The rooms were okay but very outdated. Everything else made this the worst hotel experience I’ve had. I was there with my 86-year-old grandfather, who was receiving treatment at the mayo clinic. The young man at the front desk was disrespectful to both of us when we asked questions and kept staring at his phone while I tried to talk to him. The cleaning staff were rude and rushed us out of the room exactly at noon. My grandfather is elderly and can’t be hurried. Don’t stay here if you want to avoid stress, especially for an elderly person.
