Royal Inn Rockville IN by Hotel O

The shower knob in my room wouldn't turn, and the place was overpriced for its quality. At the desk I waited five minutes while the woman finished a speakerphone call, apparently with a family member. When I explained the problem, she brushed it off by saying a guest had stayed there that past weekend and nothing was broken. She didn't come check, send anyone, or offer a partial refund. The halls also had historical pictures, including some with Confederate flags, which I found completely unacceptable. Not a good hotel, and it needs new management.

There was no working TV because the remote didn't work, and when we asked the older woman at the front desk for batteries, she basically said too bad, they wouldn't have any until tomorrow. We also asked about snacks and drinks for sale, and she was rude as if it were a ridiculous question. I saw her be extremely rude three times, once to another person asking about rooms and twice to us. The website claimed there was an on-site restaurant and a breakfast buffet, but neither was true. They only had a continental breakfast. Overall, it was a bad experience with the front desk and the amenities weren't as described.

The staff were very nice, and the hotel was clean and pleasant despite its older decor. It's reasonably priced and conveniently close to Turkey Run and Shades State Parks. The continental breakfast was okay.

The entrance wasn't welcoming, and I managed to walk right past the front desk. I went down the whole hallway without seeing anyone, even after ringing the bell. The lighting was dim and it smelled moldy. The outdoor pool was closed, and the outdoor seating and pretty much everything else could use an update. I know from other reviews that the site uses auto-generated replies, so I doubt anyone actually reads these. It's a shame motels and hotels like this can be rented out. Are there still regulations, and where are they enforced?
