Courtyard Rocky Mount

We booked this for our honeymoon and ended up with two full beds. That was a small inconvenience, but it added to the feeling that we’d been swindled. The $179 nightly rate is ridiculous for what you get. The photos are inaccurate, and the hot tub is gone. The rooms are very dated, with sticky, disgusting carpet that I kept my shoes on for the entire stay. The TV was tiny and old too. Nearby hotels in the same park cost less and are newer and cleaner, and many two-star places are cleaner and much cheaper than this one. Breakfast was a joke. It wasn’t included, and they wanted $18 for a bacon, egg, and cheese. The lobby Starbucks only had regular coffee. Hotels next door charge less, include breakfast, and aren’t this dated. This is a Marriott Bonvoy, despite the Google page, and I won’t stay with Marriott, Bonvoy, or whatever they call themselves again.

On December 20th, my boyfriend and I came back from the pool and had barely been in our room on the fifth floor when police showed up. Someone had reported us as loud and violent. We weren’t fighting or speaking loudly, and we didn’t have the TV or music on. It was just the two of us having a good time, so the whole thing made no sense. They checked our IDs, and we almost got kicked out. It ruined our vacation. I still don’t understand why nobody simply came to ask whether we were making noise. I suspect a girl named Allie, who was at check-in, called them, but I don’t know why she would make that up. There was also lobby construction that we hadn’t been told about when we reserved. It was so loud we could barely hear each other, and workers had one of the elevators to themselves, which made the wait even longer. We left the next day. It was all very strange, and I’ll never stay here again.

The staff were amazing, and getting to I-95 was convenient. Rooms are roomy, though a few things could use minor maintenance, and the mattresses are firm. The hot tub is closed for long-term repairs. There are chain restaurants close by, but options for vegetarians, vegans, and people with other dietary restrictions are limited.

Alicia at the front desk is a lovely addition, and several restaurants are close enough to walk to. This is an older hotel among newer ones, though the rooms are fairly up to date. There’s a heated indoor pool, a bar, and breakfast is served.
