Fairfield Inn & Suites By Marriott Romulus

The hotel charged me a USD $75 security deposit and wouldn’t refund it, saying it was for parking. Free airport parking was clearly included in my reservation, and I attached a document showing that. I found the practice misleading and unacceptable. The property feels neglected. It’s old, poorly maintained, worn out, and smells bad. The location and general atmosphere were unpleasant, and the staff came across as unprofessional and unhelpful. This doesn’t meet Marriott standards. With the poor upkeep, uncomfortable environment, and missing refund, I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. Find somewhere else. Do not stay here.

The people working here were my favorite part. They’re friendly and professional, and everything was spotless. The hotel is close to the airport, though the property looks a little worn and could use updated furniture and fittings. The gym and pool were nice and worked fine, but the gym has just two treadmills and one elliptical, with no weights or floor mats, for example. It’s clean, but it isn’t new.

We were stuck staying here because of the hockey tournament’s stay-to-play rules, even though I travel often for work and usually choose Marriott properties. I don’t write many reviews, but I was shocked this place has four stars. The staff were nice enough, though I barely interacted with them. The hotel itself was awful and dirty, from the lobby to the room. We found the previous guests’ trash and sticky surfaces, and the rooms were very dated and dusty. I couldn’t wait to leave in the morning because the place made me so uncomfortable.

The room was decent, and the hotel is convenient for DTW with an airport shuttle. The experience was so-so overall. The common areas need attention, especially the carpets, which are heavily stained and urgently need replacing in the breakfast area and hallways. Soundproofing is poor, and I could hear bothersome footsteps from the room above. Breakfast quality was pretty low.
