Holiday Inn Express & Suites Columbia-I-20 @ Clemson Rd by IHG

I booked this for a wedding because there were only two hotels near the venue in Columbia. I was already hesitant after seeing several negative reviews and finding it outdated and overpriced at $218 per night. I checked in after 3 p.m. Friday, then had a family emergency early Saturday and left around 9 a.m. to travel back to my home state. On Monday I realized I’d still been charged for both nights. Expedia contacted the hotel for me about a possible refund. The hotel said my reservation was prepaid for two nights and they were sold out, so they wouldn’t refund anything. I understand policies, but the lack of empathy or flexibility during an emergency was extremely disappointing. A gesture of understanding or partial credit would have shown basic compassion and professionalism. Charging for a night I didn’t stay because of circumstances I couldn’t avoid is unfair and unacceptable. As a teacher, every dollar matters. I wasn’t asking for anything unreasonable, just fairness. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone looking for decent service, understanding, or value for their money.

The convenient location and how clean and neat everything was made this a perfect spot for our weekend. My son and I were in South Carolina for the OU-Sourh Carolina football game. The room was spotless, the staff were friendly and inviting, and the simple breakfast buffet hit the spot Saturday morning. We were seconds from the interstate and a stone’s throw from a nice local area with shops and restaurants. We couldn’t have been happier.

The best part was the service. The lady running the breakfast cafe this morning was top notch, super sweet, kept the tables clean, and kept the food refreshed. The woman who checked us in last night was friendly and accommodating too. Our room was clean, the shower was powerful, and the bed was comfy. Wonderful hotel, and we’d definitely stay again.

Rooms were very clean and quiet, apart from some intermittent street noise. Breakfast was good, too. You can walk to Waffle House, Krispy Kreme, a German restaurant, and plenty of other places to eat. Highly recommend this hotel for your next stay.
