We were really disappointed. The cabin we reserved looked freshly renovated in the photos and seemed to include several upgraded amenities. At 12:30 on check-in day, they told me there was a leak and said they’d keep me updated. Check-in was at 3, and with no news by then, I contacted them. They said the leak wouldn’t be fixed in time, so we could choose between two other cabins. We picked the one that looked nicer in the pictures, but it was still the same price as our booking. The substitute cabin was dingy and run down. The window AC accordion piece was completely broken, leaving the window open to the front of the cabin. Bedding in that same room smelled so strongly of mildew it made us nauseated, and the carpet smelled like urine. Several light bulbs didn’t work, one closet was unusable because it was stuffed with extra carpet rolls, and one bed had dog hair all along the bottom of the bedding. The fire extinguishers were empty, and the smoke detectors weren’t hung up or didn’t have batteries. The backyard had four-foot weeds and was covered in dog feces. We all started sneezing as soon as we walked in. We understood things can come up beyond management’s control, but being moved to a subpar cabin for the same price was unacceptable. After we made them aware of the problems, they sent fresh linens. It was a very disappointing experience.
We stayed in #22, and it was stunning and so clean. Such a nice place to bring the family. We had no problems at all, and it was the best experience!
We had a wonderful stay at Hidden Escape Lodge. It was spacious, with a fully equipped kitchen, an outdoor grill, and a very comfortable king bed. The place felt nicely set apart from the other cabins we passed, so we had some privacy and didn’t worry about being too loud. It’s quaint and has a lovely atmosphere. There were a few minor things we didn’t like, but nothing that would keep us from returning. Finding it was a hassle, though. Apple Maps sent us to a private house, and Google Maps stopped us by the roadside where the cabin was supposedly located. We eventually got there. The owner’s email had directions, but they didn’t match what either navigation app showed.
We never got to use the cabin, yet they kept $150, and we had to pay for a hotel every night. We visit Ruidoso twice a year and have crossed these cabins off our list. Enjoy the $150. Before booking, we asked whether river flooding ever cuts off access to the cabins and were told it didn’t. The afternoon we arrived, the river was flooded and we couldn’t get through. I spent two hours arguing with management by text to get them to agree to a partial refund. We stayed at a hotel, planning to try the cabin the next day, then learned the cabins had no water for cooking, cleaning, or using the toilet because of broken water mains. That took another two hours of arguing for a partial refund. On day three, the same thing happened, and it was clear the water wouldn’t be restored during any of our five booked nights. After a long debate, they finally agreed to refund everything except $150. The flood and water outage weren’t their fault, but they provided no service to us and still insisted on keeping that amount.
We’ve stayed at these cabins several times, and every visit has been positive. They’re clean and have the usual necessities plus extras, including cooking and grilling utensils, bath robes, and a cute rubber duckie by the jacuzzi that I loved. The bed is spacious, there’s a beautiful fireplace and an indoor jacuzzi, and the TV swivels so you can watch from anywhere in the cabin. I highly recommend them if you want somewhere quiet and nice to stay.
