The breakfast had a lot to choose from: waffles, eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, yogurt, muffins, bread, bagels, coffee, and orange and cranberry apple juice. It was quiet and peaceful, with very few people around, unlike at Best Western or Comfort Inn. The receptionist heard I’d driven 11 hours from Kentucky and gave me a Jacuzzi suite. I soaked in the hot water, slept so well, and even got back in before driving to Denver. I chose Fossil Creek Hotel and suites because it’s just off the interstate and has a pool and hot tub. It’s an older property, but clean and comfortable.

I grew up in Russell and had good memories of Fossil Creek, so I chose it to support a local hotel. That choice backfired. My girlfriend and I found the showerhead completely broken, which made the shower unusable. I told the front desk the next morning and was assured it would be fixed while we were out, but it still hadn’t been repaired when we returned that night. The next morning I explained that we’d been unable to shower throughout our stay and asked for a partial refund. After some back-and-forth, they said they’d approve one once the third-party booking agency contacted them. The offer was $10. I’d been patient and calm the whole time, so that felt like a slap in the face. A nonworking shower for an entire stay isn’t a minor inconvenience. It put a real damper on what should have been a great trip to see family and friends. I won’t stay here again.

The kids loved the large pool and were eager to get in one last time before we left. We had our family Christmas party at Fossil Creek Hotel because it was fairly central for everyone, and the experience exceeded our expectations. We used the convention room for our meal and White Elephant gift exchange, and the staff were friendly, accommodating, and helpful throughout. They even lent us a corkscrew when we realized we’d left ours at home. It was a fantastic place for adults and kids to gather, celebrate, and make memories. We’d absolutely stay again.

We rented the conference room for a baby shower and agreed it would be divided, with round tables and a few rectangular ones. The manager had called ahead to ask how many tables we needed and whether we wanted the whole room or half. When I asked when I could decorate, I was told I could come whenever, with an hourly early access charge. I arrived two hours early, but the door was locked. I waited too long at the front desk while the staff member called the manager, then found the room wasn’t set up and the divider wasn’t ready. I helped move tables to the side we were using. We were paying for that decorating time, and they already had the room and table details. The floors were dirty and unswept. Anything we dropped while decorating got covered in grass and dirt, and we were running out of time and had to rush to start the shower. The manager wasn’t there when we went to talk to him, so the desk clerk called him. He said he knew the room had been ready two days earlier because they’d had an event with 50 people the night before. I told him I could see that wasn’t the case, since we’d cleaned the tables, moved them, and had to accept dirty floors. He called me a liar, repeated that the room was ready two days earlier, and was on the phone because he wasn’t at the property. We agreed I wouldn’t pay the early access fee, so I paid, cleaned up, and left. Two days later, the manager tried to charge my card for early access to the dirty room that hadn’t been divided or set up. He messaged me calling me a liar again, saying it had been set up two days earlier despite the event with 50 people the night before. Don’t rent the conference room with a credit card. They say one thing, then charge whatever they want later and call you a liar when caught. I included his message after he tried to charge me again and got caught. It’s only $30, but most people might not fight a charge after it goes through. He seemed very comfortable charging my card again a couple of days later.
