The Lodge at Russell

The room was clean and updated, with a nice tile shower stall and upgraded sink. The buildings are old but well maintained. We misunderstood when breakfast started and arrived 15 minutes early, but the door was unlocked and they welcomed us in. There was homemade cinnamon roll and biscuits, plus eggs, oatmeal, waffles, cereal, yogurt, and more. The breakfast room had lots of plants, including free ones in cups with a sign inviting guests to take one. Little touches like that made the stay feel special, and the service was friendly and helpful.

Tia was amazing, from booking through checkout, and made sure I had the room that suited the length of my stay. Everyone we met was friendly, helpful, and a pleasure to be around. The Lodge at Russell has clean, nice accommodations for a very reasonable rate, a real plus in this economy. Pets are only $10 per night, and there’s plenty of space to walk them and let them potty. It’s not as fancy or updated as the big chains, but the breakfast is delicious, the people are down to earth, and you can take home a free plant. We got an aloe vera. The rooms are sparkling clean, and it’s all less than $100 a night. I use a wheelchair, and the accessible room was already occupied, which was totally okay. Adding grab bars and handheld showerheads in every shower would make things much more accessible when the only fully accessible room is taken. That’s the only reason I didn’t give a perfect rating.

The Lodge was convenient to I-70, and the service was friendly. The room was comfortable and clean. We did have a fly to deal with, but I’ve had that happen at plenty of hotels with doors that open outside, so I expect it. At least they provided a swatter. Breakfast was great, too.

The breakfast was great, with fresh eggs rather than powdered ones, and they also had homemade cookies. The rooms were clean and the staff kind and welcoming. All in all, a great experience.
