Country Inn & Suites by Radisson, Ruston, LA

I arrived to find the doors locked. After I banged on the glass, someone came to help and told me the hotel had been closed for two weeks for emergency renovations. No one had notified me, so I had no chance to arrange another place. Somehow they still charged me for one night, even though this was their failure and poor management. It was stressful and infuriating to scramble for somewhere else to stay. The person inside said the closure had started two weeks earlier, so a simple email or phone call could have spared me this mess. The hotel’s actions were atrocious and disrespectful.

I was in town with my daughter for a graduation, and the stay was a huge disappointment. The hotel feels run down and dated, and the halls smelled musty. The pool was closed and green, but that wasn’t posted on the website or mentioned when I booked. The room was awful too. When we pulled the sheets back, there was a lot of hair and debris at the foot of both beds, apparently left by the previous guest. I won’t even get into the mattresses underneath. I complained at the desk and someone came up to replace the bedding, but the sheets, blankets, comforters and pillowcases they brought were clearly used. The floor hadn’t been vacuumed, and there were no towels for drying. I asked twice for the manager to call, then asked again at checkout. A week later, still nothing. My daughter sat on the edge of a bed and fell because the frame wasn’t positioned properly underneath it. That never got fixed, so she slept on the other side. We won’t be back. The room and service were both poor, and I’m easy to please.

Ruston itself was lovely, and this hotel could have potential if someone gave it attention. But we arrived to find there was no breakfast, despite it being listed among the amenities. Our room had no fridge or microwave, one bed was broken, and the pullout sofa had a roach in it. The next morning we found roaches in the beds too. There was no working TV remote either. We asked and got two, but neither worked. The one elevator badly needs repair; we were uneasy using it, and a housekeeper with a big cart tried to get on while three people were already inside. Such a shame.

This place is closed indefinitely. I booked in February for an April 2025 wedding, then arrived to an empty parking lot and a CLOSED sign on the door. Neither Expedia nor the hotel sent me an update. If you’re planning to stay here for graduation, make other arrangements ASAP. I ended up paying $500 to stay at a low quality hotel.
