The key problem started when we asked to keep the same 1 King Bed, Suite for an added third night. Moe said that would be fine, but the next morning Alana called to say we had to move because the new room had only a shower while ours had a tub/shower. The descriptions didn’t show any difference, the rooms had the same title and price, and nobody had mentioned a switch when we made the request. We canceled that night and left. Luckily, the power at our house came back soon after. We had booked three nights but got out after two. On day two, our keys stopped working, and the desk clerk told us we no longer had a room because it had been cleaned for the next guest, even though my infant and I had been there all day and the room was reserved for another night. It turned out another clerk had made two reservations instead of one. When my husband tried to get an explanation, the manager, a pompous white man whose name I can’t recall, snapped, “Let me set you straight,” and spoke to him with incredible ignorance. Alana and the manager had horrible attitudes. Alana, Moe, the manager, and the front desk staff were rude and incompetent. Sleep Inn in Ruston, LA should call itself Sleep OUT. Two-star hotel, two-star service, no professionalism or common sense. Whoever gave it two stars was generous; it deserves one at best. We only stayed because other hotels were booked, and now we know why this place still had rooms available. This staff will run it into the ground, if they haven’t already.

I’d tell anyone considering this Sleep Inn in Ruston to read the complaints before booking. There are better options in town, with staff and managers who take customer service seriously. My own stay was disappointing from the start. The front desk staff were rude, and when I brought my concerns to manager Michael Conley, he said he couldn’t deal with them because he was “on business.” He didn’t listen or try to fix anything. That was dismissive and unprofessional for a manager. Looking through other reviews, I saw similar accounts of guests raising issues and getting excuses or brush-offs instead of solutions. That suggests a repeated management problem, and poor leadership affects how the staff treat people. Guests shouldn’t feel ignored or like a nuisance for bringing up legitimate concerns. I’m asking corporate leadership to formally review and address this complaint. The service and conduct at this location don’t meet the standards I expect from Sleep Inn or Choice Hotels.

Good breakfast, nice rooms, and a great staff. After 20 years of using the other budget hotels, this is my new favorite. The price is right too. A working man’s choice.

For $127.32, this was a comfortable stop on our trip. Texas Roadhouse is nearby, and even with it being New Year’s Eve, I have no complaints. We watched some fireworks from the window. I’d stay here again.

The breakfast turned out better than I expected, and the room was clean, with fresh-smelling beds and AC that worked really well. It’s an older, somewhat dated hotel, but a pretty decent place overall. I’ve stayed somewhere nicer for $160 a night, absolutely, though this was much better than I expected. We picked it while passing through because reviews of so many other hotels around here mentioned bedbugs or cockroaches, and none of the reviews for this one did. I was pleasantly surprised by how nice and clean it was.
