The history of Madison Barracks (Thue Inn) adds a lot to the atmosphere, and the staff go out of their way to be friendly and helpful. The property has been almost completely redone. I was impressed when I stayed in 12/2019, and this visit in 6/2025 only improved my opinion. It’s a go-to spot.

We were stranded late at night after an unsatisfactory stay elsewhere, and nearly every place I called was booked. Alex answered right away and offered us a room. It was a little over my budget, so I took a moment to think it over, and he texted soon after with a discounted rate. From arrival on, everything was pleasant. The grounds are beautiful, and the historic building has clearly been renovated. It’s clean and welcoming throughout, with large, clean rooms and comfortable beds. Breakfast included bagels, oatmeal, coffee, yogurt, muffins, and more. If you’re staying a couple of nights, this place is well worth the extra money.

We came through Upstate NY recently and spent one night at the Marina Inn. The staff communicated really well and checked that we’d be able to get in. We arrived after dark, but they emailed clear instructions for picking up the key, and getting into the room was easy. The restored historic building and its setting were lovely, and our room was very clean and comfortable. We also enjoyed the cute town of Sackets Harbor. Anyone who likes early American history will love the area. The staff really went above and beyond.

Stayed 6/23-6/25/17. The suite was well worth the $135, especially with those great views. The place is beautiful, bright, quiet, and so clean it looks brand new. Sackets Harbor doesn’t have many places to stay, but the price here is great. It felt like home, and with the desk attendants only there part-time, it felt like my own place. They’re great, by the way. Did I mention the views? I’ll post some pictures.

The hotel upgraded us to a suite at no extra charge, which was nice. It’s a unique experience staying in a historic site. A few pieces of furniture had stains, though the room itself was immaculate. I’d recommend it and would visit again.
