Holiday Inn Express Rocklin - Galleria Area

For about $100 a night, I think this place has a lot going for it. The room was clean, the shower hot, the air conditioning cold, and parking was good. I also liked the location, with several places to eat nearby, including Mexican fast food and breakfast spots, plus Costco and a mall within an easy drive. The first-floor room made my week easier since I have a bad back, and the front desk person was polite and helpful. I had the free breakfast every morning but one. It was good, with fresh fruit, decent coffee, and fruit juices. It's not a true five-star property, and breakfast isn't five-star either, but I've stayed at worse places. I'd happily stay again if I'm back in the area.

The staff were welcoming and ready to help with what I needed. Breakfast had a good selection too. Maybe they could add bacon 😊. The place itself is decent.

I work remotely at night, and I didn't get a good night's sleep once during my three-night stay. There was noisy work happening around the property with no notice when I booked or checked in: power washing the roof, then the driveway, and later drilling or some other power tool. I moved rooms, but the driveway cleaning the next day woke me anyway. The manager said she didn't know roof cleaners were coming, admitted she should have known, and said something had gone wrong. When I raised the noise again, she tried to turn it back on me, saying other guests hadn't complained. Daytime noise still matters when guests are trying to sleep. Some appliances weren't in good shape either. In the first room, the microwave plate wouldn't sit properly despite my trying to reseat it, and it bounced around loudly when running. In the second, the fridge lights were missing and dead. If I were upset about ordinary guests making normal daytime noise, that would be my problem. But staff should know when an outside crew is doing loud work, especially with power tools that can be heard on the first floor, and give guests a heads-up. The subpar service and management have put me off all Holiday Inn properties. How could staff and management not know about a major roof-cleaning job? Guests' wellbeing clearly isn't being treated as a priority.

The room's showing some wear. The people were great, though. The TV remote had no battery cover, and the batteries were held in with Scotch tape.
