What keeps me coming back is the location and the people at the front desk. They’re wonderful, especially the kind woman from Ukraine 🇺🇦, and I’m so glad she escaped her war-torn country. Raley's is within walking distance, with lots of other restaurants nearby. The two-bedroom suites are much more spacious and comfortable than the single-bedroom rooms, especially for the money. The beds are firm and springy, though, and I found dead ants by the tub and a bug I didn’t recognize on the sink. Breakfast is a joke and needs better choices. It’d also be nice to have snacks like cookies, candy bars, soda, and bottled water.
I’ve been here about 15 days, and the free on-site laundry has been really handy. The beds are comfortable, breakfast has a good variety each morning, and Francesca at the front desk is amazing. Parking does cost extra. I’d recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a higher-end stay in Sacramento.
The heat and AC worked well, the shower water was warm, and I appreciated seeing a security officer patrol the lot, especially with all the car break-ins in California. The room was mostly clean, though the bathroom had a slight smell and there was trash beneath the bed. The bed and pillows were uncomfortable, the coffee machine still had empty packets in it, and people made noise in the hallway overnight. The front desk person was rude. Parking is $10 per day, there’s a $100 deposit, and the pet fee is $75 for up to two pets, with an extra charge for more.
We changed rooms because the first one on the 4th floor was loud and so run-down that I didn’t think it should have been offered. There were garbage cans outside people’s doors, and the place felt like a live-in hotel, though Jane at the desk said it wasn’t. We saw signs that people lived there and felt out of place. The next room was somewhat better, but still not good. There was hair on the bed when we arrived, and we worried about insects. We never unpacked, barely slept because of more noise and people we thought looked sketchy, and left early the next morning. The online photos were misleading, and the $10 parking charge and $100 hold on our card felt unjustified. This isn’t a suite, it’s more like a studio shack or transitional housing. The hotel calls itself classy, but it felt more like a motel. It allows pets, which could be a problem for people with allergies, and we passed on the complimentary breakfast. My wife and I had chosen it for its proximity to Ruth Chris Restaurant, where we dined on NYE, and because some reviews seemed okay. We were furious, but it was late on NYE, we were far from home, and everywhere else was booked. Crystal at the front desk was very nice and tried to help as much as she could.
The room itself was clean and quiet, though it could use an update. What bothered us was the bright parking lot light shining through curtains that wouldn’t close all the way, so we had to hold them shut with clip hangers from the closet. They call this an “all-suite” hotel, but our “studio” was basically a regular hotel room with a kitchenette. The full-size fridge and two-burner stove were useful, and the kitchenette was serviceable. We’d called ahead to ask about pots, pans, dishes, utensils, and chopping knives, and were told everything would be there. Instead, we found two full-size plates, one small plate, two bowls, two forks, two teaspoons, two mugs, one butter knife, and no sharp knives at all, whether steak or chopping knives. We weren’t impressed.
