The staff were super nice, and the breakfast was warm with plenty of options. We also had fun at the little bar and cafe. The pool area closes at 10 pm for kids, then stays open an extra hour for adults. There’s an indoor, somewhat heated pool with a causeway that lets you float outside, plus a really nice shared seating and table area out back. The rooms were nice and clean, but they only had wooden blinds, not curtains, and we couldn’t close them enough to darken the room for resting. Our air conditioner was difficult too. Restarting it got it working properly, but after we’d been away for a few hours, the room would be warm and humid again. The spectacular service, including helping with an item we left behind and actually shipping it back to us, is what made this five stars instead of four.

Customer service was great, and we liked the pool. The place feels nice and fancy, but the cleaning could be better. There was grime caked around the bathtub drain that scraped off under my nail, so I didn’t want my son in the tub. He also found dog food in the room, though we don’t have a dog. The area made us uneasy. There was trash in the Motel 6 pool behind us, and people hanging around the parking lots at both hotels. My husband wouldn’t let me go to the car by myself. I’d stop there only if I had to. Breakfast was just so-so.

The bed was comfortable once we put the king mattress back on its frame. The daytime crew was much better than the evening staff, who seemed probably understaffed when we checked in. The food at the bar wasn’t good and it was hard to get served. Breakfast was minimal, too. The place was rated higher than it deserved.

I’m glad I paid a few dollars more for this hotel. It was my first time at a Stoney Creek Hotel, though I’d heard good things, and the praise was deserved. The rooms were spacious and very clean, and the location is close to the Interstate with easy access to the museums. Service was superb. Whitney was great at check-in, and Kathleen made sure my requests were handled: two rooms near each other and close to the elevator because of my physical limitations.

Reception was really friendly and welcoming, and the room was clean, quiet, and smelled fresh. The bed was soft, too. But the blinds let in so much light that the room never got very dark, since there are no curtains, and we woke earlier than we wanted after traveling the day before. I also booked online for $135, but my credit card was charged $165.
