Baymont Inn and Suites Salem Roanoke Area

We won’t be staying at the Baymont in Salem, VA again. The first room was filthy and completely unacceptable, with blood stains on the carpet and mattress. We even had to clean the bathroom ourselves before we felt okay using it. After we complained, they moved us to another room, but it was only a little better. The floors still looked as if they hadn’t been swept or mopped in a long time, and the cleanliness overall was poor. Guests shouldn’t have to handle basic cleaning or worry about sanitation like this.

Do NOT stay here. We started in room 222, which was gross: a dead bug in the sheets, a dirty fridge, blood on the lampshade by the bed, and something that looked like boogers smeared on the mattress. At the desk, the staff member got an attitude and argued that 222 “Was a great room.“ They eventually moved us to 240, but said we could only have one key and demanded the key to 222 back right away. As we were gathering our things, the front desk guy let himself into our room and scared me badly, then asked how much longer we’d be. We had literally just left the lobby. Room 240 smelled a bit better, and one bed’s sheets appeared clean, so we went to sleep. The next morning there was poop smeared on the floor under the sink, ashes in the sink, a cigarette butt in the toilet, what looked like a bloody bugger on the shower wall, and poop on a washcloth. We stripped the other bed and found hair and dirt, I hope, on the sheet. Housekeeping said they don’t change bedding between guests “unless it looks dirty.” Management told us to come back Tuesday when the owner was there. Both exterior door locks are broken, so anyone can get into the hotel.

The staff were great, the towels and linens were clean and nice, and the location was good. But the tub had hair in it, and the toilet hadn’t been properly cleaned. There were brown marks on the seat that came off when I wiped them, which is unacceptable. Noises from the fridge and toilet also made it hard to sleep. Please improve this for future guests.

It’s a budget hotel, and the beds and old mismatched furniture show that. But it was clean, and the customer service and friendliness were right on point, which are the two things that matter most to us. You get what you pay for, so staying somewhere like this can be an adventure, but ours was a positive one.
