DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Salem, Oregon

The biggest issue was breakfast. The food was much better than I remembered, but the toaster badly burned an older man's toast and set off the fire alarms. Staff couldn't turn the system off, so it screeched for a long time. The hotel had to be evacuated and the fire department called. My son and I missed our appointment because the fire truck blocked us in. An employee said the toaster has a known history of similar malfunctions. That issue hadn't been addressed, and it ended up costing our family. Staff also had no way to handle a known false alarm, which feels like another safety concern. The nearby strip club also brings the location down a notch, though that's outside the hotel's control. On the positive side, this was a return visit after staying before the remodel, when I wasn't a fan. The redesigned rooms felt like a new hotel instead of an old one with cosmetic fixes. They were spacious, comfortable, clean, and well maintained. Staff were friendly enough, check-in was smooth, and the pool area was nice. The lobby bar was a relaxed place to socialize.

We had such a relaxing getaway in serene surroundings. The rooms had modern comforts and cozy touches, and security gave us peace of mind. The food and drinks were consistently excellent, from local dishes to creative cocktails. Staff were warm, enthusiastic, and professional, especially when they helped me plan a private proposal. Morning pastries and candlelight in the lounge were thoughtful touches that made the stay special. This inn exceeded my expectations, and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for comfort, safety, and memorable experiences.

The staff were nice, parking was easy, and the cookies are always delicious. I liked the pump bottles of shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner instead of the little disposable bars and bottles. I didn't get to try the gym or pool. I spent two nights in two different rooms. The first was nicer, with glassware, coffee mugs, and a sofa. The second was on the fourth floor by the elevator, where the hallway was freezing. The carpet in both rooms was rough, especially in the second; its pattern couldn't hide all those stains. I ordered a mixed green salad from the bar, and it was the weirdest one I've ever had, just frisée, a few lemon slices, and very stale croutons. No tomatoes or carrots. I'd stay again, but please replace the carpet.

I can't recommend this hotel. The air conditioner was so noisy at night that it was hard to sleep, there was no hairdryer, and free water wasn't included. I left a tip in the morning, but when I returned in the evening it was still untouched. The room hadn't been cleaned or the bed changed, and there was hair and staining on the floor. They don't clean during your stay, and it was disappointing.
