Stepping Stone Inn

Matt's coffee is excellent, and I say that as someone who really isn't a coffee person. Matt and Kelly were super friendly, always up for a chat or offering recommendations. The room was cozy and comfortable, and the feline staff were friendly as well. My pictures are of Clifford and Bix. We had an amazing stay, with a central location that let us walk nearly everywhere over the weekend. It's about 15 minutes from the transit station. The stay was perfect, and I'll look to book again next time we're in town.

I left feeling so grateful for this ten-thousand star experience. The owners were incredibly friendly, helpful, and accommodating, and even helped sort out an issue I was having with my return travel ferry because they cared enough to make sure I was all set. Their kitties are adorable, clever, and entertaining. My heart belongs to Clifford the Cat now. The Inn felt purely like home, with delicious coffee and just-right breakfast choices. It was beautiful, clean, quiet, and cozy, and our experience far exceeded what we expected.

After a day walking around Salem, the Stepping Stone was a quaint, quiet place to come back to, and its location is ideal for exploring. It's right next to one of Salem's main attractions, the Salem Witch Museum, where crowds waiting to go in can build up, but that never got in the way of our stay. The owners were gracious and accommodating, and knew the area well. We were lucky to have our own "private host" checking in on us while we were in the room (photo). Matt's Famous Coffee really lived up to its name. As someone who drinks a lot of coffee, I found it among the smoothest I've ever had, and his story of tweaking the recipe was interesting. I highly recommend staying here.

We stayed in the San Francisco room and really liked it. Just know that the bathroom is probably the smallest you'll ever see, though I found it charming rather than a problem. The Inn is very well maintained and has a real sense of history. It's also possibly the best located Inn in Salem's old center, with the historical sites and witch shops all an easy walk away. Before we arrived, we got clear details about what to expect, including parking. Matt greeted my wife and me along with two very polite cats, and all three were charming and made us feel welcome right away. Matt knows the area and offers useful suggestions, including ideas for things you hadn't even thought of looking for. He could make a nice side business as a tour guide. We'll certainly stay here when we return to Salem.
