SureStay Plus Hotel by Best Western Salida

Great service, breakfast, quiet rooms without road noise, and very clean, comfortable beds. The pool is what kept this from being five stars: it was freezing, under 65 degrees, and needed cleaning. The hot tub made me itchy, probably because of the chemicals. My kid and several other families got itchy, too, and the kids weren't swimming. They got in the water and went straight to the hot tub. Fix those issues and it'd be five stars all the way.

The staff really stood out. They were helpful, attentive, and genuinely friendly, and Ralyn went far above and beyond for us. She showed what great customer service should look like. The property was very clean, with nice amenities and a great breakfast. It's convenient for downtown restaurants and skiing at nearby Monarch Mountain.

The biggest problem was the noise from the people directly above us. It sounded like bricks were being thrown or people jumping off beds, and it woke us four times. The night manager said he couldn't intervene unless he heard it himself. My husband went upstairs and heard plenty of talking at 1 AM, but no jumping or anything. We were offered another room at 1 AM and slept better there, but the move cost us over two hours of sleep and was inconvenient. They comped half the second night, but that didn't make up for such a hellish night, especially while I was fighting a cold. The other guests caused the noise, but I think the hotel could have called their room or knocked. The entrance was confusing, too. We tried the front door, which needed key access, but the real entrance was around back with a small sign we'd missed. The front desk guy said that's a regular complaint. The bed wasn't great, and the lightweight pillows had to be doubled up but were still uncomfortable. Breakfast was pretty good the first day, less so the second. There was a shower, no tub.

The front desk was friendly and helpful, and the parking lot seemed safe, with no problems during our stay. We had a clean, well-maintained, quiet top-floor room away from the street, room 433. The only repair issues I noticed were a crooked TV and missing grout or caulk in the bathroom. I read the building was built in 2011. You could hear people talking in the hallway, but not from inside the room. It's conveniently placed for town amenities and skiing at Monarch Mountain. The food wasn't special, but it saved us a trip between the hotel and mountain. We'll stay here again next time we ski there.
