Travelodge by Wyndham Salina

We chose this place because everywhere else was full. The room had an odor, and the bathroom smelled like pee. The AC was one of those really loud units you can't adjust. Compared with nicer places we've stayed, this charged more than twice as much for a pet. I wouldn't recommend staying more than one night.

My only disappointment during a one-night stay was the lack of available power outlets. The owner or manager had the few in the room all in use, even though travelers need to charge phones, tablets, or laptops, and families may have several devices. A bit of planning would help. The room itself was clean, basic, and comfortable, and it nearly met my expectations. I start at three stars, subtract for disappointment, and add for pleasant surprises.

We stopped here in July 2019 during a family cross-country road trip. We weren't expecting much, but the room was really unclean: there was hair all over the shower from a previous guest, and a used coffee pod was rotting in the coffee maker. After we checked out, the owner texted that he was charging $50 to our card because our toddler had spilled a tiny bit of milk on an old, dirty chair. Terrible experience.

The old window AC unit sticking out of the wall did cool the room, but it was so loud. The mattress was maybe six inches thick, the pillows were hard, and I couldn't sleep for long because my back couldn't take it. The hotel is old and worn out. I didn't expect much for $40, but it was worse than I thought. The front desk clerk wasn't wearing a mask, and when I asked him to put one on, he had to go get it from his car.
