The area felt dirty and sketchy, and the room problems were a mess from check-in onward. I’d booked months ahead and wanted a king room. The first room wasn’t cleaned after the previous guest. They moved me to a second room with queen beds, but that one hadn’t been cleaned either. The third was clean, but the stay still had plenty of problems. There were no snacks in the vending machines, the soda machine didn’t work, and my window had no blind or drapes, so light came in all night. The so-called new construction looked like nobody knew what they were doing. The shower drain and lumber still had stickers on them, the shower tiles were uneven, and paint had dripped on the fixtures, floor, molding, and new shower floor. There was no closet or coffee for the maker. The toilet seat was loose enough that I nearly fell, the bed frames made a horrible noise when I moved, and one bed had its legs propped on wads of paper towels. There was a bug in my ice bucket and no tissues. For a Wyndham hotel, this was a disgrace. They offered no satisfaction over the room mix-up and just said they couldn’t keep housekeeping. Pay more to stay somewhere else.

I know the property well from my time as Night Auditor, from February 1985 to April 1987, when it was a Holiday Inn. Getting it ready for 21st-century business travelers would have taken a major investment. The water-flow heating and cooling system was already outdated in the 1980s and would regularly shut off, sending me back to restart it. The wiring was from the analog era, and the kitchen sewer lines backed up, leaving a stench by the dishwashing station. That helps explain why the property languished as an America's Best Value Inn in recent years. Still, kudos to the new owners for rehabilitating a place with a morbid history.

Staff were amazing, from the front desk to maintenance. Everyone I met was exceptionally pleasant. The rooms have been remodeled, though there were a few understandable kinks to work out. I started out skeptical, but the stay exceeded my expectations, especially for the price. I’d happily stay again.

I stayed Friday through Sunday, and the room was clean, spacious, and wonderful. The fridge was extra large, bigger than most I’ve seen. The staff were available and ready to help, and the location was fantastic, with Walmart, Lowes, and everything in between right nearby. Breakfast was good, served in a lovely space at convenient hours. I loved the stay and will choose it again.
