Days Inn by Wyndham Salisbury, NC

The only reason I picked this place was that it was near the baseball event, had OK reviews, and seemed reasonably priced. My son and I were meant to stay two nights, but we couldn’t wait to leave Saturday morning. Wyndham customer service brushed off my concerns and offered a 15% discount. I checked out a day early because of the conditions, and Days Inn, no thanks for that pitiful offer. Use it to clean the place. The room was supposed to be nonsmoking, but the smell was intolerable and a blanket had a cigarette burn. The AC barely worked on a hot August night, so my son slept on the floor to keep somewhat cool. The carpet was filthy enough to dirty my socks. The hot water ran out before he finished showering. The remote didn’t work, and after I got batteries from the front desk, it still wouldn’t turn off the TV unless I unplugged it. The fridge hadn’t been cleaned, and a large chunk of ice in the freezer made it unusable. The room phone didn’t work either. The hotel door was damaged, apparently from someone trying to break in, and bent at the top and bottom. Outside lights and noise came through. There was trash piled by the stairs to the second floor, and people loitered around the property and made noise all night. When I checked out, another family was leaving because they said there was mold on the walls. Find somewhere else and spare yourself this experience.

We arrived Saturday and were still waiting for towels at 2 p.m. Sunday. There were two cockroaches, and the air conditioner didn’t work. Early check-in cost $30.00. The bed was clean and comfortable, and so were the room and bathroom.

I’d stay here again. I was looking for a relatively cheap room as a Wyndham Rewards member because I knew I’d be spending $340 on skydiving. The Salisbury Days Inn had the best rate that fit my expectations. I went skydiving at Piedmont Skydiving. I wished there’d been grab-and-go breakfast, but I really liked the room. It smelled great and felt like being back home in the country, with a vaulted bedroom ceiling and a nicely raised bed. I didn’t see any roaches. If you’re spending a lot on something like skydiving and need an inexpensive room for a night or two, this place will do. I also walked to Old Navy and Food Lion, about 10-15 minutes away.

Our car got scratched, and when we came into the room after checking in, the maintenance guy was smoking inside even though it was supposed to be nonsmoking. I told the front desk so we wouldn’t get charged a smoking fee. The room was dirty too. The carpet was black, and my child’s knees and feet turned black from crawling.
