Casa Tortuga 10ppl w/ Pool

We were excited to drive from Florida to San Antonio, where my son’s friends were, and our relatives were in Austin. We had a packed vacation schedule of museums, zoos, and aquariums in both cities. We arrived at 14322 Turtle Rock St. San Antonio TX on Sat. Aug. 16th, at the property managed by Grand Welcome and disseminated by VRBO as a rental. We were tired from the drive and stayed in to relax. I have pictures of everything. The refrigerator had residue from old food and juices, so my wife cleaned it. The counter was caked in food from previous guests, and we killed a roach. Upstairs, our son said the toilet wouldn’t flush, and I couldn’t get it working. The master shower had black goop on the bottom, water pooled at my ankles, and there was hair inside. My son reported the same issue with the other shower. We found a woman’s shorts and erection pills in the drawers, and the window AC was so dirty you could barely see outside. The next day I checked the pool. The skimmer was choking because the water was low, birds were bathing in it, and it was full of leaves and bugs. We couldn’t use it until Wednesday, when the pool guy came, added chemicals, and vacuumed out the debris. He asked me to turn the water off after an hour when it was full. I own a pool and I’m a licensed home inspector, so I know what I’m looking at. The outdoor tables and kitchen/dining windows were filthy too, and the trash bags were full to the top with maggots. We were on vacation with a full schedule, so we didn’t have time to wait around for call backs, plumbers, pool workers, or maids. I documented everything and reported it once we got home. I expected at least the cleaning fee back because the house was filthy. They said the pool had been inspected on the Saturday we arrived, which, as a home inspector, I can tell you is a lie. Their response was, “...Please know that we carefully reviewed your request and the decision was made in line with the policy.” Apparently their policy expects you to interrupt your trip and wait for vendors who didn’t do the job properly in the first place. VRBO is done for me, and I’ll be seeking a full refund of the $2,200 I paid for this nightmare. Buyer beware, keep looking.
