O´Brien Historic Hotel

The lock on our door didn't work. When we checked in, we brought everything into the room, but as we were leaving for dinner we noticed the door wouldn't lock. The deadbolt didn't secure it from inside either. We told the front desk woman, who kept acting like she didn't know what to do. She went to call the manager, who ignored the problem. We asked for someone to repair the lock or to move us to another room, but both requests were refused. After waiting 45 minutes for an answer, we left to find somewhere else for the night. It was already 8:30 p.m. We asked for our money back for the unused night, but they ignored us. A week later, we're still trying to get a refund for this awful hotel. It's also dirty, old, and smells bad. We booked it because it was near the Riverwalk and the pictures looked cute. Terrible service, unsafe, disgusting. Do not go here.

The staff were very, very nice, and it was clean and quiet. It's a nice walk to the Riverwalk, though the place needs some maintenance. When we first walked in, it looked very cute. At check-in, she charged us for a balcony room, but when she checked whether it was ready, it wasn't, so she put us in a ground floor room instead. We were still charged for the balcony, leaving a credit on our account. We stayed one night, then found ants in the bathroom. I asked if they could deal with them or adjust the room price. They moved us next door because the manager wouldn't be back until Wednesday, when we were checking out. That was fine. The jets in the bathroom didn't work in the first room. In the second, the jets worked, but the shower head didn't.

It's a cute place, close to all the fun in San Antonio, and the rooms and bathrooms are clean. The drains are a little slow. There's a shared balcony overlooking an empty parking lot, which is a big negative when parking is pricey. Overall, 3.5 out of 5.

This place is old and run down, and the beds are uncomfortable. They have foam mattresses so the springs won't come through. There's no hot water. Paying for a balcony room gets you a view of the parking lot, not the River Walk, though you can walk there. I spoke to the night manager, who said she'd call the manager, but I never heard anything. In the morning, the day person said he didn't know about it and would also call the manager. Nothing happened. They didn't offer to move us or comp the nights, and Expedia did nothing either, even though we made the reservation through them. We paid for parking, but the night person took our spot and just told us to use another one. It's a horrible place. They lie and don't really care about the people staying there. The website says there's a place to eat breakfast, but there isn't. There's only a coffee pot with creamer and sweetener.
