Powless House

We first stayed here during our active duty years when visiting San Antonio, and now that we're retired, we chose it again for our third stay. We keep picking base hotels because the hygiene and cleanliness meet our standards. Civilian hotels may have fancy decor and breakfast, but we've paid much more for places where cleanliness wasn't a priority. Here, the room was hygienic, the decor was fine, and breakfast was good, especially the yummy coffee. Nothing to complain about. Everyone, from the front desk and breakfast staff to the housekeepers, was friendly and helpful. As a military brat and retired Army wife, I really appreciate that Holiday Inn Express Powless House meets my standards. Thank you for all you do!

The room was a good size, clean, and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast had lots of options. But the room keys failed about 85% of the time at both the outside back door and our room. Getting them re-keyed didn't fix it. The window coverings were strange blinds with no curtains, and they did little to keep out the parking lot lights or the rising sun. That would be rough if you're on a night shift and trying to sleep in full daylight.

The location near BAMC was the main advantage, and the staff were polite and helpful. The room was generally clean, though dated and in need of minor maintenance. Breakfast was decent enough to get the day started, nothing memorable. It was an average stay, fine for a short visit when you need to be near the hospital, but there is room to improve.

The staff were really nice, and breakfast had a good range of options. They also put on a Wednesday social and served food, which was a nice touch. I'd definitely stay again.
