I got stuck in San Antonio because of the recent storms, and they were able to take me in without any trouble. The hotel is quiet, clean, family friendly, and felt very safe. There’s a limited breakfast included, plus an iHop next door. It’s right off the interstate, and for a fairly new Wyndham property, it was a wonderful stay with great staff.

For around $80 for a weekend, I expected a cleaner, more comfortable room. As the photos show, it was in rough shape: there was a cockroach in the tub and another on the floor, a used bar of soap in the shower, rust in the tub, and hair under the toilet lid. The sink drained very slowly too. I’d pay a little more and stay somewhere else.

Breakfast was tasty enough: cereal, toast with jelly, weak coffee, and milk that seemed a little off. The room was just okay. The bedspread had a few stains, and maybe three of the five pillows looked clean. The floor looked like it had been vacuumed at least once sometime in the past week. Not horrible.

I was there less than an hour, and most of that was spent trying to check in. The clerk seemed annoyed from the start when I asked about a vacancy. I chose the cheapest room, 106, and he went through the restrictions in a way that made it feel like he wanted me to leave. He insisted my ID and card show the same name, then said visitors weren’t allowed when I explained I was going to pick up my friend who lived around the corner. He wouldn’t let me return with them, even when I offered to pay for double occupancy, and said they’d have to be there with ID. He seemed pleased to stand his ground while I got more frustrated. Then the key wouldn’t open the room. The clerk wasn’t at the desk when I went back, so I called for him. He flung open an office door, looked disgusted, snatched the key from me, and disappeared. He eventually came out to the hallway and asked if I was coming, but the key didn’t work for him either. He stormed off, returned several minutes later, and I found him at room 106 with the door open. He held out the key without a word, then went away again. The room looked clean and smelled nice, but the bed was so short my feet hung over the end, and there was body hair on the bathroom counter. I tried to rest, but heard a man yelling outside my door. It grew louder and sounded like two men arguing across the lower floor. Fed up with the clerk’s attitude, the short bed, and the pubic hair, I grabbed my things and checked out. A policeman was in the lobby arguing with the clerk and another man. I handed over the key and said I’d never stay at this hotel or a Super 8 again. I didn’t ask for a refund and didn’t get one.

Getting around was easy from here. The hotel is near the Alamodome, downtown San Antonio, and major attractions, with parking that felt secure and was simple to use. Even though it’s by the highway, the hotel was peaceful at night, and I slept well. My room was spacious, clean, and well kept, with a comfortable bed and fresh linens, plus a microwave, fridge, working air conditioning, and reliable Wi-Fi. The hallways and shared areas were tidy too. The staff welcomed me warmly, made check-in easy, and were helpful with questions and directions. For the price, it’s a great value compared with downtown hotel rates. I’d happily recommend the Super 8 Alamodome area for business or leisure, and I’ll stay again.
