A note about the area: the city around the Alamo, including the Fairmount, is torn up by construction. That’s not the hotel’s fault, but the building site has been there for several years and is expected to continue for a couple more. We were there over Thanksgiving weekend, so staffing was minimal and the bars and restaurants were closed. I understand employees need family time, and the staff who were juggling things were delightful. Our first room was small, adequate, and very sparsely furnished. There were no chairs, either inside or on the balcony we’d reserved, so the bed was the only place to sit. There’s a rooftop bar, but no indoor guest lounge. We couldn’t figure out the AC and heat controls, and the temperature stayed in the 60s. Staff couldn’t fix it, but the one person on duty eventually moved us to a room with heat. For the very high price, this wasn’t close to a four-star stay. I can’t recommend it. Also, don’t confuse Fairmount with Fairmont.

Room 312 was perfect, with lovely views and all the little details that made it feel special. We come to San Antonio every year for Día de los Muertos, and the Fairmount Hotel has become our home away from home. Sarah checked on us several times and made sure we had everything we needed. She was so kind and made us feel like family. The bartender, whose name I wish I could remember, took great care of us too and found us a cozy spot by the bar while we enjoyed a delicious meal from Nonna. The service made us feel welcome and pampered. Thanks to the whole team at the Fairmount for another wonderful weekend. We’ll be back year after year, and highly recommend this beautiful hotel.

We hadn’t reserved a table at Nonna, so the hostess kindly suggested the Fairmount lobby, where we could order from both the Nonna and Silo dinner menus. We had Chicken fried Oysters and Cinghiale pasta, then Budino for dessert. Rachel and Ryan were great as waiters and bartenders. Rachel made a lovely cocktail to go with dessert and gave us the best service. I can’t recommend the place enough. You’d also be staying in a Guinness world record land mark in San Antonio.

The street construction was terrible, and we couldn’t even get to the valet. The hotel is old and quaint, and our room was incredibly quiet. We actually need white noise to sleep, so the quiet didn’t work for us. The rooftop bar was almost empty while we were there, though the bartender was kind.

The bed was comfortable and the shower pressure was good. Service was friendly and informative, and valet parking was available. There’s a rooftop bar with great views. Street work was happening outside, and the room stayed much too bright at night even with the lights off. It was also noisy outside, with people revving their engines until almost midnight.
