Crockett Hotel

The location was great, and the cafe was handy with reasonable prices. Still, the check-in and room were disappointing. We booked a queen bed more than a month ahead, but were told none were available and given two full beds instead. Check-in was slow, about ten minutes per person, with only one desk worker. There was just one person ahead of us, but a line formed behind. The hotel is older, and the rooms and amenities showed it. What really bothered us was a pile of toenail clippings between a bed and the window. The satellite TV didn't work, either. We could hear a lot happening outside, and bright lights from the AMC came through the blinds, though that's not the hotel's fault. A pizza parlor flyer was pushed under our door, even though signs in the room warn that these flyers have been reported as a scam. Guests shouldn't have to worry about that or need a warning from the hotel. We won't stay here again and wouldn't recommend it.

Everything you need is an easy walk away from this hotel, which sits right by the Alamo, San Antonio River Walk, and the Mall. I chose it over the more expensive place where my conference was held, and I'm glad I did. The price was very reasonable. The lobby tavern served tasty food. My room was cozy and clean, with no smell, a comfortable bed and pillows, and a shower with great pressure. It wasn't fancy, but the TV had plenty of channels, including a 24/7 cat show that I appreciated. Kids would enjoy the amenities too. I'd stay again.

Right in the middle of downtown, this is a great base for walking around San Antonio and the river walk. The staff were friendly, and the bar was great with live music. I'd recommend valet parking. The extra cost is worth the convenience of being able to come and go.

The lobby and bar are magnificent, with art and atmosphere that are must-see spots in SA. I'll happily stop by the bar again, but I won't spend the night here. The rooms are rough: extremely old and small, with bathroom fixtures that look unchanged since the 70s. The bathroom is so tight you can't open the door all the way. The hallway carpet is old and scuffed throughout. At least three major things seemed broken each day, including malfunctioning elevators and damaged ADA access areas. It was terrifying, and I'm amazed no one was hurt in those elevators while I was there. It feels as though ownership can't decide whether to keep the hotel intact or turn it into a museum.
