Motel 6 San Bernardino, CA - North

The staff have been great, and Mr. Kevin is terrific at running this place. I’m grateful for the safe, caring atmosphere, with very little drama and people who focus on helping you get better. They’ve made the ground floor into a recovery program, which works perfectly for me and my small dog. I’d highly recommend it to anyone recovering from a medical issue. The deposit situation was a mess. They demanded cash, which we hadn’t been told about, and had unreasonable rules that could cost us the deposit. They were rude about it and threatened to cancel our booking, leaving us without a room, while directing guests to a sketchy gas station ATM. I booked a premium room through expedia, and it was awful. The parking felt unsafe, with trash and sketchy vehicles around. The door looked kicked in and wouldn’t shut properly. Inside, the floors were absolutely filthy, there was garbage by the nightstand, and the toilet and tub were dirty. All the pillows and towels were stained, and the mattress was dirty and stained too. The counters were dirty, so we wiped them down, and the cloth came away dirty. I’ve stayed at many Motel 6 locations that were far better. This place was disgusting.

I cancelled my stay after seeing the condition of the place. There were lots of homeless people around the motel, which made it feel unsafe, the pool was very green and looked as if it hadn’t been cleaned in months, and the front desk service was bare minimum. The room itself was decently clean, which was the one upside. They required an unadvertised $60 cash deposit for the key, and I’m still waiting for the refund. Edit: I’ve called twice and was told both times that the refund was “processing” and should show up in 7-14 days. That hasn’t happened. Either the front desk is giving me the runaround, or Motel 6’s system is so bad they can’t process a simple refund in a reasonable time.

The constant construction noise was bad enough, and on the way to my car I saw people apparently living in the parking lot. There was also a large variety of illegal activity out in the open and available for purchase. This place felt like a gamble, so after losing my deposit, I’m done with it. They claimed a towel was unusable and there was too much dog hair, which is kind of offensive since I don’t have a dog. The elevator wasn’t working, and all the available rooms were on the third floor. I guess they’ll make sure your car is safe.
