The rooftop restaurant was great for breakfast, and I’d stop in just for that. The hotel was nice, centrally located for most of what I wanted to do, and the staff were very friendly. I wasn’t keen on the valet price.

The room’s condition and the area around the hotel were the biggest problems for me. The paint looked old, the furniture was worn, and there was an unpleasant smell like goat cheese in my room. The street nearby soon becomes an area where a lot of homeless people gather, which felt uncomfortable and especially unsafe at night. Basic things were missing too. There were no free slippers or toiletries in the room, though you could call the front desk and maybe get them 10-15 minutes later. No minibar or snack bar either, just an awkward little convenience store downstairs. For water, there was no complimentary bottle, only a $9 one, and they encouraged guests to refill their own at the station on each floor. The shower temperature was nearly impossible to manage, swinging from freezing to suddenly scalding. The gym was tiny and very basic, with 6-7 people sometimes standing around in the morning because there wasn't room or enough equipment. Honestly, this is the worst Andaz I've stayed at. Calling it a 3-star hotel wouldn't be an exaggeration. It feels like someone took over a mediocre 3-star place, gave it a rough renovation, and put the Andaz name on it. I rarely write negative hotel reviews, but this was absurd.

We had a wonderful stay at andez hotel and would absolutely come back. The rooms were lovely, comfortable, and well kept, and the food was delicious, better than we expected. We also really enjoyed the heated pool, though there was no bar or food service from 11-2. Everyone we met was so kind, welcoming, and genuinely helpful. The hotel was spotless, and even the scent throughout the property was lovely. Staff knew the area well and were happy to suggest things to do and places to visit around San Diego, which made the trip even better.

Breakfast on the roof was excellent, and Jesse and the staff were just great. Andaz has a chic look, lovely art, and a luxurious feel from the lobby through to the suite. We didn't stay ling enough to use the rooftop pool, but would have if we'd had more time. Definitely coming back!
