Comfort Inn Mission Bay

The room was clean and comfortable for our two-night stay, even though the hotel is a bit dated. It has a small outdoor pool, a fridge and coffee maker in the room, and an average hotel breakfast. Service was excellent and friendly. It’s a good base for driving a few miles to downtown, the harbor, and other places of interest. There’s a park with beaches across the street and a 7 Eleven opposite, which came in handy.

The hotel is clean, quiet, in a very good location, and has free parking. Breakfast was hot and good, but there wasn’t much variety. I stayed five days and got the same things each morning, which got boring even though the food wasn’t bad. The building is old and needs maintenance. Replacing the carpets and renewing the bathroom would help, even though everything was clean. One thing I’ve noticed in hotels in the USA, not just this one, is that rooms don’t seem to get cleaned every day. At least make the bed and sweep the floor. We didn’t know when booking that this wouldn’t happen. We’re used to daily room cleaning, and I felt like I was staying in an Airbnb.

We booked the Green Tree Inn because it was near where I needed to work. It technically did the job, but it really feels like a location only hotel. The sheets were clean, there were no bedbugs, breakfast was included, and the shower got aggressively hot. The coffee was surprisingly decent. The place feels old and kind of dirty for the price. The room was tiny, or perhaps just crammed with too much furniture. If you’re used to Japanese or European rooms, you might find it spacious. Most people won’t. We had an emergency water shutoff for 3-4 hours, thankfully midday, and the key cards kept demagnetizing, so we had to make several trips for replacements. There was also some mystery vomit or food spill in the elevator that stayed there for a few hours. Lovely. Check-in was wild too: freezing outside, then a lobby that felt humid and about 90 degrees. I escaped quickly. Breakfast was basic and limited, with eggs, pancakes, sausage, biscuits, and gravy, but it was fine. Again, decent coffee. Otherwise, I’d happily stay just about anywhere else in San Diego.

The staff went above and beyond to make sure I had a pleasant stay. My room was clean and the bed was comfortable, and the complimentary breakfast was a nice surprise in a well organized dining area. Green Tree Inn is conveniently located near popular attractions. For a reasonable price, you get a handy location, clean rooms, and great customer service.
