The most frustrating part was check-in, easily the worst hotel check-in I’ve had. I recently got married and changed my name, so I don’t have my new American Express card yet. My husband gave me his card from our joint account, but staff wouldn’t let me charge it and made me use my debit card instead. It felt unnecessary and frustrating. Reading other reviews now has me worried I might not get my incidental charges back either. I usually wait until after a stay to review, but my time at The Dana at Mission Bay has been frustrating enough that I’m writing before the trip is over. The rooms are very dated and felt dirty. There were noticeable black spots on the entry tile, and the layout is awkward, with the sink right in the doorway and little privacy. There are also “resort fees” that don’t seem to match what the property offers. The drink tickets felt like a half-hearted effort to justify the fee. I’m disappointed to be writing a negative review before the stay is even finished instead of enjoying my weekend.

We had an awesome week here. The bayfront location is beautiful, and you can walk to Mission Beach and Belmont Park. The Dana has several pools and Jacuzzis, and the Firefly restaurant bar was great with wonderful staff. Happy hour service by the patio fire pits was amazing. Laundry is available on site; you download a website and pay in the app, which was easy and just $1.75 per load. Alicia cleaned our room and was so sweet, leaving us animal towels each day. We’ll definitely be back soon.

The Dana at Mission Bay was a great stay for our week, and the most dog-friendly place I’ve ever visited. Molly helped us check in on the first day and upgrade our room. The restaurant staff were friendly too, especially our favorite, Bobbi. I’d recommend it for a trip with your dog or family. 😄❤️🐶😄

The rooms were cleaned so well after service, with the staff organizing everything and vacuuming up our sand each day. I honestly haven’t had better maid service. It was also a perfect location for our family, making it easy to get around and visit the beach. We’ll stay again.

Our experience made it feel like they didn’t care or provide the services we expected, and I wouldn’t return. We waited four days for service in our room. We saw other guests with robes, but none were given to us as promised; after we asked, it took two more days to get them. The bike rental place was closed when we went, and bikes weren’t included. The pool bars never opened. They also wouldn’t show the promised movie if it had even sprinkled five hours earlier. We arrived a day late and tried to change the reservation. The hotel blamed the third-party agency, but the agency said they weren’t willing to change it. I was told the resort fee paid for free drinks, but that wasn’t the experience we had. You can hear everything through the paper-thin walls. The noise rule starts at 10, yet a party with loud music and bass at 8:30 was apparently acceptable. For someone on East Coast time, that’s 11:30, and we were trying to sleep on our first night. It was also disappointing that you can’t access the beach from the property.
