Hotel Zindel

Even with the hotel fully booked, it stayed quiet and peaceful, and the location was handy for walking to Little Italy and all its great restaurants. Our room was clean, the bed was very comfortable, and the atmosphere was calm and relaxing. Check-in was welcoming and smooth. The man at the desk even carried our bags upstairs, which we really appreciated. The common-area fridge was stocked, including cold bottled water that came in handy. Staff were easy to reach and quick to respond when we accidentally locked our keys in the safe. Housekeeping was on site and helped us get extra towels. We had a wonderful weekend at Zindel and would gladly recommend it.

I had a Saturday in San Diego when I first arrived and couldn’t book this place last minute, but I managed to get a great deal for Monday night on my way out. I absolutely loved the hotel, and it was both unique and practical for my immediate needs: I had medication to transport that needed to stay refrigerated. My king room had a kitchenette with a fridge, and the shared open space had a full-size refrigerator where I could refreeze all my ice packs for the trip the next day. There was a pool table, some basic breakfast items, and a nice coffee machine for mornings when you don’t have time to check out a local café. The night check-in gentleman was lovely and accommodating, and he put up with my sometimes chatty self. The room was cool thanks to a huge fan, and the bed was comfortable. I slept very well. Little Italy is lively, with plenty of restaurants and cafés within walking distance. Traveling solo as a 41-year-old woman, I felt very safe walking around. There’s some road noise, and earplugs are available by the bed. My room had a sound machine with only one setting, but I’m used to using my YouTube app for our son’s rain sounds, so it wasn’t a problem. I can’t speak to parking since I didn’t rent a car this trip, but I will next time. I’m planning to come back with our almost 5-year-old next week when we make the trip again. He’ll love the place.

Little Italy is walkable and has plenty of places to eat. It’s a bit sleepy in the daytime and livelier after 4pm. It’s not as energetic as the Gaslamp District, which suited me: I wanted some quiet while still being in the mix. Airport noise, traffic, and safety weren’t concerns for me. I had a great vacation in the Harbor King Suite at Hotel Zindel. Self check-in went smoothly, and the staff, including Jeff and Stefani, were warm and friendly. I didn’t want to leave and hope to visit again.

The courtyard fire pits and the shared area with a pool table and coffee and snacks made the evenings fun. We’d hang out by the fire, play pool, then walk a few blocks for dinner or cocktails. Little Italy was easy to explore on foot, and the hotel had a stylish, tucked-away feel, with clean, beautifully designed rooms and comfortable beds. Self check-in and keyless entry were simple, and whenever we had questions, the virtual concierge replied quickly by text. Whether you’re visiting or doing a local staycation with friends, I’d happily return and recommend it as an easy, stylish place in Little Italy.
