The location is beautiful, and there's a good coffee shop downstairs, but right now the hotel isn't ready. Renovations are ongoing and won't be finished for a while. We woke up Monday to very loud noise, and there should be a warning on the website, or they shouldn't charge full price for rooms. For the expense, you can get a better deal at a cheaper hotel with more amenities. This place doesn't offer much yet. The sliding doors in our room wouldn't stay shut, and the handles were falling off. It feels almost finished, but not quite. There's also a big window in the shower, so showering feels awkward if you're with family since everyone can see you. Maybe it will be a great hotel in the future, but I'd wait before coming.

Sergio made a great first impression at check-in. I arrived much earlier than planned, and he stored my luggage while I explored and waited for the room. It was ready about two hours later, and he even upgraded me. The staff overall were friendly and attentive, and La Jolla is right outside, with everything within walking distance. I had a lovely four-night stay at La Jolla Cove Suites and would consider coming back. Just be aware that construction is happening on weekday mornings and afternoons. I hadn't been told before booking, and the early noise woke me after a long travel day, so I'm taking off a star.

The coffee shop downstairs was one of my favorite parts, and the location is amazing, with beautiful views. But our balcony had no privacy at all, with no ceiling or covering, so wedding guests could look right into our space. We couldn't enjoy the rooftop either, since weddings were held there every night. We asked several times for cushions for the outdoor furniture, but they never arrived. Our room itself was nice, but it was right beside active construction. Nobody mentioned it when we booked, and the noise began early and carried on through the day, making the stay incredibly frustrating and not worth the price. Staff offered to move us halfway through, but we didn't want the hassle of packing everything for just a couple more nights. They seemed indifferent and slow to address our concerns. Amenities were lacking: there was no easy access to an ice machine or water fountain, and the elevator was extremely slow. Parking was also limited and surprisingly expensive. The location and views are great, but missing amenities, poor communication, and underwhelming service made the stay disappointing. I really wanted to love La Jolla Cove Suites, but it didn't live up to expectations.

The construction next door was a big problem. Jackhammers started right at 7am, then heavy equipment kept pounding around. This is definitely not a peaceful getaway. We booked two nights in a Cove “Ocean View” Suite based on its advertised photos. Instead, our room had only a sliver of ocean visible from one window, no balcony outside the bedroom, and a tiny back window overshadowed by the adjacent construction. The receptionist wasn't helpful and said every room was a little different. They wouldn't move us to the room we expected because it was booked for the next day, which was interesting. We offered to cancel and find another hotel, but they said we'd still be charged for one night.

Our wedding was at the hotel's rooftop venue, and we had spent over a year planning it there. We chose to stay at the hotel and directed guests to book there because of its partnership with the venue and its convenient location in the heart of La Jolla. The biggest problem was the lack of clear information about construction and how it affected accessibility. We only saw the full scope when we stopped by the week before the wedding: the entire hotel was wrapped in scaffolding and undergoing major construction. Before then, it had been described as "room renovations," and we were specifically told there would be no active work on the rooftop. Neither was accurate. Because the venue and hotel operate separately, no one took clear responsibility when we raised concerns. The hotel said it relied on the venue to pass on construction updates, while the parent company had decided to proceed with major construction. The venue blamed the hotel, and the hotel blamed both the venue and its parent company. After our site visit, we were told we could cancel during a peak travel period or move to a sister property about 30 minutes away. Neither was realistic with our wedding at the hotel, so we were told to proceed as-is. We also got conflicting answers about whether the rooftop would be ADA accessible. A front desk staff member said the hotel wasn't obligated to comply because it was a historic building. Since the venue contract said it was ADA accessible, we had to escalate the issue before being reassured that access would be available. During the event, a guest who uses a wheelchair was sent to an elevator that didn't reach the rooftop and ultimately had to be carried up the stairs. An operational elevator did reach the rooftop through a construction access point on the first floor, but nobody guided the guest there. Afterwards, both the hotel and venue denied responsibility. This wasn't a minor inconvenience. It affected the guest's ability to reach the event safely and comfortably, and there didn't seem to be a contingency plan for ADA access despite the known limitations. For a hotel hosting weddings and large events, construction and accessibility limits need to be communicated clearly. The lack of transparency had a real impact on our experience.
