Sonesta ES Suites Carmel Mountain – San Diego

I spent two weeks here and moved between three buildings. Building 2 had a bathroom that reeked like a septic tank, plus a dumpster outside where people dumped things loudly at 6am every morning. I asked to move and ended up in building 4, where the internet and TV streaming services didn’t work. I moved again to building 6. Its internet was okay and it didn’t smell septic, but the lock didn’t work, and the door opened without a keycard. The grounds were dirty, with overflowing bins and trash left outside people’s doors for days. The treadmills and firepit were out of order, and outdoor furniture was outdated with peeling paint. Breakfast was mostly what looked like microwaved eggs, odd meat, and tater tots. They tested the fire alarm for a whole day while I was trying to sleep after working second shift. The rooms were dusty and musty, too. Getting fresh towels or room cleaning meant asking at the front desk, which wasn’t a big deal. Parking was fine, but it wasn’t a good hotel experience, and I won’t stay here again for work in San Diego.

We had a lovely east-facing suite on the top floor, with breakfast included, though you’re welcome to cook as well. There’s access to a pool and gym, and lots of good restaurants and other stores are within walking distance, handy for finishing your Christmas list. The weather was perfect, as San Diego is sunny most of the time. I’d recommend it to friends.

Our room was roomy and clean, and the full kitchen had a fridge, stove, dishwasher, and more. Breakfast was complimentary, and lots of restaurants and shops were an easy walk away. Nothing fancy, but it’s a great hotel for the price. We had a great stay with our toddler.

Breakfast is served every day, and our room was great. Our daughter loved the pullout bed. The major downside was the awful WiFi in our part of the property. I couldn’t work or stream, and the family couldn’t play games on their tablets or phones either.
