The room was clean and comfortable, though it was showing its age, and housekeeping were friendly and helpful. Mary Jane's next door made breakfast easy. The location worked well for exploring the Gaslamp area, with plenty of bars and restaurants and the harbor within walking distance.
The service was great, and this was my first visit to San Diego. The Gaslamp District is lively, especially if you like nightlife, and the city itself is beautiful. The room was ordinary, with nothing especially good or bad about it, and I thought it was expensive for what you get. There’s a busy train nearby, and the noise carries late into the night, so I’d ask for a room facing away from it.
I was in town for a convention, and the location is ideal, right across the road from San Diego Convention centre. The room itself was nice, but mine was beside the ice machine room and a cleaning closet. I was only disturbed a couple of times, though I worried it might happen more often. The shower never got properly hot. It was warm at best and got colder the longer I stayed in. There was also a very dusty glass panel between the bedroom and shower, so you could see straight through both ways. The bedroom fridge was packed with minibar items, leaving no space for my own things. For the room price, I expected to be able to use a fridge. Hotel WiFi disconnected as soon as I checked out, which was inconvenient. Check-in was difficult. The woman assisting me spoke so quickly that I could barely follow her. When I asked her to confirm my dates, she said everything matched my booking. But the key holder I got upstairs had the wrong checkout date, so I went back to ask for a corrected one. She was rude and seemed annoyed that I’d returned. The system showed the right date, but she wouldn’t acknowledge that she had written the wrong one on the key holder. Asking for a replacement turned into a very uncomfortable exchange. I stayed polite and friendly, and a friend nearby witnessed it and also thought she was exceptionally rude for no reason. The other staff I met were all very nice and friendly. I was there for six nights and had a $900 deposit or hold placed at check-in, the largest I’ve encountered at a hotel.
The staff were friendly and gave excellent service, and the room was comfortable, clean, and spacious. I was there in October for an event at the conference center. Gaslamp has plenty of restaurants, stores, and entertainment within walking distance. Nights were cooler than I’d hoped, down into the 60s, but I could adjust the in-room thermostat. I’d absolutely stay here again.
Float, the rooftop pool and bar, was a standout for lounging during the day or having drinks with music and downtown views at night. Nobu on site added a world-class dining option, and there’s plenty of nightlife around the hotel. The Hard Rock Hotel San Diego is also very central for the Gaslamp Quarter, whether you’re here for work, a weekend away, or a night out. The place has a fun, upscale feel from the start, with lively decor and rock memorabilia. Rooms are modern, with comfortable beds, good views, mood lighting, music-inspired touches, and roomy bathrooms. Staff were friendly and professional, and ready to help with valet, check-in, or local recommendations. It’s stylish and full of energy, and made my San Diego stay feel like an event.
