The Monsaraz San Diego, Tapestry Collection by Hilton

The staff made our stay memorable. The front desk gentleman was welcoming and looked sharp in his gray plaid suit, and Manny at valet was friendly and went out of his way to help with our parking situation. Our room was comfortable, though the water pressure could be stronger. It would also be nice to sign into streaming apps like Netflix on the TV, as at other hotels. We had a great stay at The Monsaraz San Diego.

A horrible experience, especially if you’re traveling a long way. You could end up in a hot room or scrambling for somewhere else to stay, possibly at an expensive rate or in a hotel you don’t prefer. The hotel didn’t tell us about its AC problems, so we could have made other arrangements. I’ve since read reviews saying the AC trouble has been happening for a while, and it looks like nothing is being done. I really wouldn’t recommend it. The app was a problem too. We couldn’t rebook at a different Hilton hotel because the system kept showing a standing reservation, even though we’d already canceled it.

We found street parking nearby easily and skipped the valet fee without any stress. The next morning, a walk along the shore was a lovely way to end our visit. I only stayed one night at the Monsaraz, but it left a lasting impression and I absolutely loved it. The rooms are stylish, modern, beautifully designed, and very comfortable, with great attention to detail. The gym had everything I needed for a quick workout, and the staff were so friendly that the whole stay felt fun and welcoming. Highly recommend!

We left after 1 AM and drove two hours home. It was our anniversary and Valentine’s Day weekend, and we can’t get that time back. This place was horrible. Our “bay view” room only sort of looked over the bay, past a street and business buildings. The room seemed okay, but it was cold, and the heater wouldn’t work. The front desk said they’d call back, but never did. We tried to watch cable while we waited, but that didn’t work either. When we called again, we were told many heaters were out, and the staff who could fix the cable had already gone home. We asked for another room and were told none were available. There was also a “troubled” homeless person peering at everyone in the lobby, and nobody asked her to leave. Is this really a 3-star hotel? The area around the freeway exit has strip clubs, cannabis dispensaries, a huge Goodwill store, and homeless people. If someone from the hotel replies offering help to make themselves look better, don’t bother. The damage is done.
