The Wayfarer San Diego

The ocean view from our room was beautiful, and the front desk staff were very nice. The room was quiet, with comfortable beds, and though it was tiny, that was fine since we just needed somewhere to sleep. The bedside lamp had dust, lint, and a spiderweb on it, though. The shower pressure was so weak I wondered if I'd ever get the shampoo out of my hair.

The beachside setting is the best part of staying at The Wayfarer, and the front desk was helpful at check-in. The interiors have been nicely updated, though the outside looks a little dated. Room service was good, too. I did notice some irritating sounds from the refrigerator and occasional clicking or dripping water. Parking is $40 per night, and the spaces feel tight, which could be stressful in peak season. It was a decent stay, but I might try another hotel next time.

The rooms are a little worn, but the beach is tough on buildings, and with this location I doubt you'll want to spend much time inside. You're right on the beach, and plenty of places to eat and drink are an easy walk away. Many rooms also have balconies looking out over Pacific Beach. The location is outstanding.

We had a wonderful staycation for my son's 15th birthday. The oceanfront fire pit, heated pool, and warm jacuzzi were all fun, and it's a great place to get up early and go surfing. Staff went out of their way for us, including letting us leave our car in the lot later because we were having a beach party. Free bike rentals were a nice extra. Whether you're a local or visiting, this hotel is a great spot.
