For more than $5,000 for the week, and compared with the online photos, I left disappointed. I had two rooms, both in much the same condition, so it wasn’t just my room. They felt worn and bashed up, with loose door handles, and were smaller than I expected. The design wasn’t very practical either. There was no good desk and chair for working or setting clothes down, and the lone floating table was an awkward circle that made getting into bed harder. Service was uneven. On arrival, nobody was at the desk, and I waited about 5-10 minutes to check in. When I went for breakfast, I couldn’t find a menu or staff, so I went somewhere else. When available, the staff were very friendly and helpful, and my room was clean. The fitness center is basic, with dumbbells, one adjustable cable machine, and a few treadmills and ellipticals. I’d have liked a multifunction weight machine or a bit more equipment. It felt like a mid-tier hotel, more like a Hampton Inn than what I expected from Canopy. For a cheaper hotel it might be fine, but with other SF hotels that seem better and less expensive, I probably wouldn’t return.

The rooftop restaurant and bar is a little pricey, but the city view is beautiful. This hotel is conveniently close to museums, public transit, bars and restaurants, shops, and attractions. The living and social spaces were clean, and we had large, comfortable beds and pillows. Lovely stay, and we’d definitely come back.

We had a beautiful suite on the top floor, and the restaurant Shelby’s, coffee shop, rooms, and hotel as a whole were amazing. Dawn, the manager, checked us in and was extremely kind and helpful. She and the rest of the staff made sure our stay with friends went smoothly from check-in through checkout. Two small issues: the lobby bar closes early on weekends, and the windows were dirty and hard to see through.

The location worked really well for getting around, with Muni nearby and Powell St. Bart less than a 10-minute walk away. I liked the area too, it was clean and I felt completely safe. Our room was clean, the bed super comfortable, and the front desk folks were really nice. The rooftop bar made dinner easy when we got stuck in the city for an extra night. Had a great stay and would come back :)

I especially liked the restaurant on the top floor, with its city view, which would be great for a date, night out, or special occasion. I didn’t get to eat there, so I’ll come back and try something from the menu. There’s also a bar by the lobby and a separate cafe area. The lounge behind the check-in lobby was a nice place to warm up by the fireplace. The location is great for downtown shopping, museums, and dining.
