Hotel EPIK

I didn’t mind the small room, and the lobby coffee machine was a nice touch, though the breakfast could be better. The toilet was broken when I arrived, but they fixed it quickly, which I appreciated. After 10 pm I couldn’t reach the front desk by either the room phone or the listed number. The walls were so thin I could hear my neighbors word for word, and hallway noise made me nervous enough to use the coat hanger trick to lock my door. If you’re a woman traveling alone, I wouldn’t recommend staying here. It’s hard to see this as a four-star hotel.

Moji, the morning front-desk agent at Hotel EPIK, was the best part of my stay. He was friendly, attentive, and ready to help, and his warm manner made a real difference. The room was spotless, attractive, and thoughtfully designed, a nice place to unwind after being out in the city. Getting to nearby attractions and transportation was easy, too. I appreciated having a coffee machine available around the clock. Breakfast was simple but enough to get the day started. Good room, good service, and good value. I’d definitely stay again.

I went to San Francisco from Los Angeles with a dream of visiting, but this hotel left me with a bad memory. I paid $80 for the night plus a $150 deposit, and they never gave my money back. I called every day for two weeks. They said they’d return it, but my bank told me the hotel never sent it back to my account. The room smelled, and the pillows and sheets were dirty. I think they’re scammers. Don’t choose this hotel, ever.

At least the bathroom was clean and the shower was nice. The rest was a letdown. The rooms are tiny, street noise carries in, and there was an unpleasant smell. Our group booked three rooms, and at least one had a cockroach. The website gives the wrong impression: there’s no restaurant, and if there really is a bar, it only opens on weekends. There’s no on-site parking. Valet is expensive and means parking in an alley and telling the front desk. They do have video surveillance there.
