Hotel Elan

The hotel was clearly there for a while before they renovated it, and the renovation seems to have been done on a budget. Still, it was clean and the staff were nice.

The room was quieter than I expected once I was inside, even with steady traffic outside and the occasional jet coming in toward San Jose Airport. The bed was comfortable, and the updated quartz tile and counters made the room feel much nicer than I expected for this price. The manager was very nice, too. A few basics were missing: there was no shower shelf, bathroom trash can, or clothes rod. On the plus side, it had a mini-fridge and microwave, which other places at this price don't always include. They took a cash deposit at check-in and promptly returned it at checkout.

The room was okay for an $80 stay, but I'd pay a little more for somewhere better. The photos make the place look more modern than it is, and the walls had scuffs and some foreign particles in the bathroom. The door looked older than I am and seemed to have no insulation, since the room felt slightly warmer than outside. When we arrived, they said my reservation wasn't available and put me in a different room. The TV didn't work either.

The AC in our room didn't work, and the bathroom light shut off every minute, even while someone was showering. We had to wave our hands around to get it back on. I also had to ask for toilet paper and a wash towel, then ask for room service. At first, the front desk lady said to wait until the next day. I made her come see the room because it really needed attention when we checked in. The owner, or front desk lady, didn't seem happy.
