Rodeway Inn San Pablo Hilltop

The beds were comfortable, and check-in was easy even though I arrived late over the Labor Day holiday. But the two-room suite on the third floor clearly hadn't been updated in years. The shower caulk was cracked, its fan was very loud, and the towel rack wasn't attached well. It fell to the floor when I took down a towel. I wouldn't come back. For this price, I can find a nicer place. I only stay at Choice hotels when I travel, and this one doesn't measure up to the others.

My stay was good, and the laundry worker with short black hair was amazing, charming, and kind. I asked her for fresh towels and changes in my room, and she brought what I needed without hesitation. She mentioned she had two kids. Later that day I saw her still working hard, cleaning and finishing quickly. She and the other workers deserve appreciation, better treatment, and a raise. From what I saw, the manager took their efforts for granted, which felt disrespectful. He should be grateful and treat everyone equally and respectfully, because they clearly know how to do their jobs.

After checking in, I realized my wallet was missing and started retracing my steps between the room, car, and lobby. I was frantic, but the young professional man at the counter showed us the same care and concern he would have shown for his own wallet. I eventually found where I'd dropped it. If you want service that goes above and beyond, this is the place.

The bathroom was surprisingly clean, apart from a few small nicks and water stains in the tub, nothing too serious or unhealthy. The toilet, rags, and towels were clean, and someone had pressed the toilet paper into a flower shape. The room had a microwave, mini fridge with a small freezer, ice bucket, and wrapped cups; most of the containers were covered in thin bags. Earlier, while looking around for vending machines and open space, I was approached by a shifty person asking me for all kinds of drugs. I talked the stranger off and went back to my room. Before getting into what happened later, I should say the San Pablo community isn't the best. I was relaxing on my phone after my shower when doors started slamming next door, and it sounded like someone was getting jumped. The people seemed drunk and blacked out, laughing, boasting, and going in and out. It kept up until about 1 a.m. while I was trying to fix my sleep schedule. I usually go to bed at 11, and it was ridiculous. I only had the room for one night, and it would probably be my last. Sorry Rodeway, but blame the people allowed to stay at the Inn.
