Hampton Inn Richmond Airport

No hot water, and we didn't have enough towels in the room. The evening staff member was training someone and was rude. I was trying something different, since I used to be a rewards member, and came away disappointed. They also charged $10 for parking, which makes no sense near an airport. There was a soccer tournament going on, not a crowd of people flying in and out. Not good.

The room was dated and musty, and this was my first thoroughly disappointing Hampton stay. The listing says parking is free, but you'll pay about as much to park here as at the airport. For an “airport” hotel, the shuttle isn't based at the property and you have to give advance notice to use it. There are several other hotels sharing the same parking lot. Pick one of those.

We chose this hotel for the price and indoor pool for the kids. The pool heater was broken, and the water was ice cold, like swimming in a glass of ice water. There weren't any warning signs. When I told the front desk, the response was, “Wow, they have fixed that yet?” We had five rooms in our group and canceled our next few bookings, then reserved elsewhere. The lack of concern from staff said it all. Maybe that wouldn't be a deal breaker for most, but it was for us. I've stayed here a couple of times, and otherwise it's pretty much perfect for sleeping: a basic hotel with clean rooms and an average breakfast.

The rooms are clean, though they feel a little old. It was my first time here, and I don't understand why they charge for parking when there are only hotels nearby, all owned by the same corporation. I don't think I'll stay again. Breakfast was out of dishes, and I waited ten minutes before asking someone in the kitchen about the eggs. They said, “I have it in the oven.” I waited another ten minutes, grabbed what I could find, and left. When I reported the problem, I got a weird look. Trying to get things improved seemed useless.
