Studio 6 Richmond Airport

The room itself was not clean. There are no rugs, as we'd expected for this brand, but the tile felt gritty under bare feet, and the bottoms of our feet ended up filthy. We had to wipe them with wet washcloths before putting on socks and shoes. There was also no coffee, just a coffee maker with sugar and creamer packets, so I went to the desk. The clerk gave me some. Later, we found dark brown stains on both sheets when my wife pulled them down. The clerk came up and said they weren't dirty, just stained. We weren't sleeping on those. Housekeeping had left for the day, so he took care of changing them himself. It took a few trips to get the right size, but he did it and went above and beyond. The noise from the room above kept thumping until 4 AM. In the morning we heard there was a "Cheer Team" staying there, which was likely the reason. We told the woman at the desk when we checked out, and she apologized and said she'd pass it to her manager. Both desk clerks we dealt with were gracious and helpful. The bigger issue was housekeeping, missing coffee and filthy floors suggest basic duties weren't done, and putting those visibly stained sheets on a bed looked like they just didn't care. I've stayed at hundreds of hotels across different brands, including this one, and this was a real letdown. Parking can be limited, and they post signs about restrictions, but we found a spot without trouble.

I booked a king at this Studio 6 for one night before my morning flight, but the room I got had two double beds. I went back to swap, only to be told there were no king rooms left. I could live with that, but the rest of the stay kept getting worse. There was lipstick or makeup on a pillowcase, black hair on the shower floor, and the TV had no apps like Netflix or YouTube. The sheets were oily and dingy, the worst I've seen in a hotel, so I slept fully dressed with my hood up because I didn't want to touch them. The AC stayed on even when I tried to switch to heat, and I froze and barely slept. I expected a clean, fairly nice, newer experience. Instead, I checked in smoothly and then found pot smoke in the hallways, among all the other problems. This was the worst hotel stay I've ever had. The Studio 6 I'd imagined as the Motel 6's classy aunt turned out to be lipstick on a pig. I'm done thinking about it.

My room has lots of space, and I love the good-sized refrigerator and ice box. The morning front desk help has been the best part. Amy and Vasantha were so helpful, which was refreshing. It's hard to find that kind of help in hotels these days.

The room was filthy. I checked the bed and found human hair, someone's bonnet and earring, and nail clippings. The towels weren't clean either, and the building had a strong marijuana smell. I left within half an hour, taking my things with me, but couldn't get a refund. Check-in itself went smoothly.
