Hyatt House Salt Lake City/Sandy

Even with the temperature at 32° outside, my kids could use the heated outdoor pool. Breakfast had a nice range of choices, too. This was one of the best hotels we’ve stayed at in Utah, and we’d definitely come back.

We were on the side facing the freeway, and the traffic kept us awake all night. If you happen to get a room facing away from it, count yourself lucky. The rooms are nice and large, and there were good breakfast options.

We’d stay here again when we’re in town. It felt like a fair price for the amenities, and the room was clean and comfortable, with great AC. The breakfast was decent, and we especially liked the organic tea selection. The staff member at the desk was friendly and handled the late night noise well. A family checked in around midnight in the room next to ours, and screaming teenagers and banging woke us around 12. My wife called the front desk, and the gentleman said they should settle down soon and that he’d check on them. They did quiet down. We understand the hotel may have been full, but if a family arrives that late, it would help to remind them when quiet hours begin, and, if possible, avoid placing them beside guests who are already checked in for just one night. There were a couple of other disappointments. We arrived about 8:50 pm, checked in, then went back downstairs around 9:05 to eat at the restaurant. The website said it stayed open until 10, but we were told it had closed at 9. That was part of why we chose the hotel, so we ended up paying nearly $50 to have one meal delivered and split. Also, after washing my hands, I noticed tiny hairs all over the hanging towel, as if someone had shaved and dried their face on it. Maybe housekeeping thought it hadn’t been used, but towels should be changed even when they look unused.

The staff were so friendly, and our room was upgraded, which was a lovely surprise. Breakfast was free and had plenty to choose from, including bacon, eggs, French toast, cereal, bagels, and bread. Free parking was a bonus, and the hot tub stays open until 10 pm. It’s about 15 minutes from downtown, close enough to get there but a little removed from the action. We’d stay again if we’re in the area. Thanks, Hyatt!
