Santa's Lodge

For a tight budget, especially in the off-season in December, the price worked well. The location is also hard to beat: right across from the main centre, down the road from the theme park, and close enough to drive to everything else. It’s a great base. The room was very basic, with a combined toilet and shower/bath, and as Australian travellers we were genuinely surprised there was no microwave or mini-fridge. The only food offered is the FREE breakfast, so plan dinner before you come back for the night. There are vending machines for snacks. The indoor pool felt worn and uninviting and could use a refresh. We didn’t explore the outdoor activities because it was winter, the lake was frozen, and it rained during part of our stay, so we didn’t see those areas. I’d suggest it for one night if you want to save a few dollars. For a longer stay, I’d compare other options based on what you prefer. I’d love to return in summer and see how it feels when the outdoor areas are open and the weather’s better.

CAVEAT EMPTOR. If you want to spend 500+ dollars on a room without a microwave or mini-fridge, with disgustingly stained bedding, cobwebs across the ceiling, and AC that seems not to have had maintenance in at least 5 years, Santa's Lodge may be the place for you. I’ve stayed in red roof inns and hotel motels, but for what you pay, this is easily the worst room I’ve seen. I don’t know why anyone calls it a resort, so I won’t use that description. The property seems neglected, and the people here don’t seem to care about it, your business, or your comfort. The one nice thing is that it’s close to Holiday world. The Cottages are close too, and at least their rooms are clean. I’ll be going far away from this place and recommend others do the same. Don’t trust a review without photos. Look at the photos if you think I’m exaggerating.

The hot tub was really nice, and it was quiet during the off-season, even though some other reviews mentioned noise. We were there for a Thanksgiving vacation, when Holiday World was closed. The place was nice, but it needs serious upgrades. There was no fridge or microwave, so we couldn’t heat the leftovers we’d brought, and the TV needs fixing since it only shows static while still playing. Breakfast was okay, I had a waffle and cereal. We wanted to try Fat Santa's, but there were no lights on, and although Google said it was open, it wasn’t. I’d come back. 3.5 out of 5.

The staff were so friendly and helpful, and this was the best hotel experience I’ve had. I loved our trip to Santa's Lodge and we’ll definitely be back.
