The staff were friendly and easy to find, and the room had just been renovated. But the construction was loud, including at 9 on Sunday morning, and I’d wait until that work is finished before staying. The door was difficult and noisy to open, and the shower leaked because the sliding door seal wasn’t fitted properly. Breakfast was disappointing over our four days: the same food every other day, sausage as the only meat, lumpy oatmeal, and pancakes that stayed undercooked in the middle. The juice and coffee were good, and parking is underground.

We had so much room that there was space for a dance battle in the middle. Seriously, it was the biggest hotel room I’ve ever had. The place is older, though not ancient, and the location worked well: food places are right nearby, and downtown is about a 20-minute walk. I’d stay here again if I came back.

Good price, and parking cost well below the usual rate around here. It’s handy for the campus, downtown, the boardwalk, and Highways 1 and 17. I think it’s the only IHG property, which is a plus if you’re a member.

The room felt worn and dated for more than $300 a night. The window AC was noisy whenever it kicked on and disturbed our sleep, and the sofa had food crumbs on it. Breakfast was another letdown: the dining area was packed, and by 8 a.m. the food had run out. We waited over 20 minutes and when I asked the kitchen staff when it would be replenished, she impatiently said she was busy and walked away, leaving several guests without food. The location is convenient for downtown and nearby attractions, but I found the stay disappointing and wouldn’t recommend it.

Holiday Inn is usually a solid choice, but this one was at the expensive end. We chose another hotel because its nightly rate was better and didn’t fluctuate.
